N55 Oil filter house seep

Guys,

I found a leak or seep according to the dealer from the oil filter house. The entire front side of the engine is wet. Oil level has never been a problem. With just 5k miles for the warranty to be over, I went into the dealer (United BMW roswell GA) to get it fixed. The SA says the leak is not big enough for BMW to fix it. Did anyone ever get this kind of push back from dealer?

That's ridiculous. When I had my e90, brought it in for a last service and they fixed the oil filter gasket saying it was leaking even though I never saw a leak. It must have been pretty small, but they went ahead and did it.

I had the same leak in my 13 335i about 15 months ago. Dealer found it during routine maint. appt. Fixed under warranty. I believe there is a TSB out for this- I don't have the number

I am gonna clean up the engine and wait till it reappears.

I've had good experiences with the dealer before.. but this time it totally sucked. My heart sank when I saw the guy pulling up my car to the front stalled twice on the ramp. Can't figure out why in the world they let people with no experience handle manual cars. Now I feel my clutch is acting funny too.. or don't know if I'm hallucinating.

You should get this fixed asap and it should be covered under warranty. On my 06 330i, that filter housing had a water coolant channel in it as well. I'm guessing that hasn't changed. Should oil leak into your coolant or coolant into your oil, you are going to have issues. Also, leaking oil can contaminate your belt and cause premature failure.

Try a different dealer. Since when is any oil leaking/seeping acceptable for a luxuary car is what I would ask that dealer.

Same thing happened to me last week. Car lost a bit of oil on the screen, the dealer informed me of the problem and replaced the gasket and my engine's belts, as some of the oil got on them. All on warranty.

OFHG issues plague every bmw. had it replaced on my e46, e90, f10. just waiting for it to happen on my f30.

maybe its not actually seeping and the tech spilled oil all over the place removing the filter during an oil change and instead of cleaning it up they said it was seeping and it was normal. id find another dealer or at the very least a different SA.

This job must be a loser for the service department, otherwise this is a no brainer easy warranty repair.

As I mentioned earlier and as another user posted - the real damage is to the belt as soon as it gets oil on it. The belt should be replaced as it will have been compromised.

Service Department - Why you no like doing repair??!!

I can confirm that the F30s are the same - I just went through a cross-contamination issue because the filter housing cracked. Talk about a mess...

I took my car in for a loss of power issue and they just called me today in regards to an oil leak from the filter. They are covering it under warranty of course.

wow pretty crazy. I took my car in for a CEL that was reading my CAT. For some reason the internals were no good on it. At the same time they mentioned an oil leak from my oil filter housing. I've never had to add oil, never had oil level problem. I'm not sure how severe it was but everything was fixed under warranty thank god! car had about 48k miles.

My dealership just pointed out that mine was leaking and replaced the gasket at 40k miles. Try a better dealership, if it's seeping now it will leak shortly after the warranty ends.

Sounds like we can expect this to happen twice within a 100k miles.

The oil leak problem is caused by the people servicing your car. By over-tightening the filter house, they're ruining the gasket causing the leaks. If the technicians get it right, you shouldn't see this at all.

Agreed, almost 100% laziness. I caused my own issue... Over torqued the filter cap and created a slow leak causing a major clean up effort. I swore it would never happen again. I purchased the ECS Tuning billet filter housing cap and torque every time... No more leaks
