Was told by tech that it pretty much makes all the suspension modes sport mode by default
and then it make sport mode into the reprogrammed Dinan suspension mode which gives the stiffer feel.
Is this what everyone is noticing? Comfort mode is now sport mode?
The new sport mode is where its at apparently..

How is my OEM BMW warranty affected by this flash?
Which module is flashed by this BTW?
Will there be any new iDrive menu settings associated with this?

Couple ways you can look at it. Comfort becomes old sport, Sport becomes old Sport +, Sport+ becomes a new "Dinan" setting. Or each setting is about 15-20% stiffer then it was previously.

BMW warranty is unaffected. iDrive menu in unchanged.

Flashes the VDM or ECDS module depending on the car.

Simply applies new damper rates to the electronic shocks is all.

I kind of wish I would have had Shockware installed separately from the springs because there's no way to tell how much of the difference is attributable to the springs or software. Overall the car drives better and you can’t go wrong for the sale price.
I feel like the change is more than subtle (the new Sport mode). Certainly more noticeable than the Dinan Diesel Sport tuner. I was thinking of going to the ACS springs for my F31 too, but after just Shockware, I'm a lot more satisfied with how the car drives.

Based on some of the reviews I read indicating that it transformed the car I was expecting a more pronounced difference. 15%-20% added stiffness sounds about right. I was under the impression that with EDC there are 2 damping profiles from the factory- ECOpro/Comfort and Sport/Sport+ . Does Shockware then add a third profile? I can't say I felt a difference between Sport and Sport+.

Can I FDL code my car without interfering with the shockware flash?

My understanding of EDC has always been there have been 3 damping modes (normal, comfort, and sport in the very beginning). I believe now they refer to it as normal, sport and sport+ but BMW changes vernacular on a daily basis so who knows what the current lingo is. Hell, its not even called EDC anymore, its M Adaptive Suspension.

As long as you arent messing with the VDM module and you can FDL code other parts of the vehicle without hurting the shockware flash.

Just depends on your dealers rate, but that sounds appropriate.

According to a Dinan post from two years ago only the M3/4 (only focusing on 3/4 series) have three EDC profiles.

The couple things I will note is that there is only 2 damping modes on a non-M "small" cars (as you noted eco/comfort and sport/sport+) but there are 3 damping modes on the M cars and the V8's (eco/comfort, sport, and sport+). The verbiage on the site is more geared towards the V8 since that is what the shockware was initially designed on (550i). That would probably explain the discrepancy in post 7 and the difference in sport/sport+ that was referenced there.

The most common way of describing shockware and the easiest to convey simply is that we are eliminating the lowest dampening mode, shifting sport/sport+ down to what comfort was, and creating a new Dinan mode thats even stiffer. While illustrating the point pretty closely it may be more accurate to just say that all damping modes and their associated compression and rebounds are just increased by roughly 15% over the stock rates. Another way to say the same thing but perhaps that is more beneficial way of viewing it to some.

So since I live overseas in Germany with my US spec car I probably can't get this done then?

Great that Dinan lowered the price. I paid full price and even then its a no brainer. Anyone with adaptive suspension should consider Shockware. Thanks for making it less expensive.

Personally, I'm still pissed that BMW doesn't deliver this car from the factory with these settings, but, oh well. At least there's an option.

So, got my car back a couple days ago. Dealership hooked it up, didn't even charge labor! $209 out the door. FWIW, my car has 65k on it and this still made a noticeable difference. Comfort is still very drivable and sport now actually feels sporty. It could still use some springs but for the price this is an absolute no-brainer. FWIW, I also reached out to Dinan to ask about how this would work if I were to get the adaptive Bilstein dampers down the road, and they said that although they haven't tested, they don't see any reason why they wouldn't play nice.

For now, this is plenty for my road-warrioring. When I live somewhere with a good canyon run or decide to hit some track days up, it will be time to throw on some springs (and probably new dampers by that point).

Thats really good to hear. I just crossed 60K myself and was wondering if its even worth it considering the high miles. Might have to capitalize on this before its too late I guess.
