Tire Size Recommendation -- 19" staggered for 3 seasons

I have a 2013 335 X-Drive with 19” staggered setup for spring/summer/fall. Currently Front are 19”x8 ½” ET 35 with 235/35/19 (25.5” height) and Rear are 19”x9 ½” ET 38 with 265/30/19 (25.3” height). Standard height is 26.0”.

I don't want any rubbing and wanting to go up a bit more in height (yes, unusual but car is bottoming out slightly on angle of underground parking entrance).

Looking at getting either Michelin Pilot Sport 4S or AS/3+. Leaning toward getting the all season just based on where I live - Calgary Canada.

Car is X-Drive so have to stay within 1% variance on height.

What is your tire size suggestion?? I have been reviewing and thinking of:
1) 235/40/19 -- 265/35/19 (almost even height 26.4"/26.3")
2) 235/35/19 -- 275/30/19 (even 25.5)
3) 245/35/19 -- 275/30/19 (fronts are taller than rear 25.8/25.5)
4) 245/40/19 -- 275/35/19 (almost even height 26.7/26.6)

Any other options? What is your vote for the size I should get.

option 2. i run that with 19x9.5 et 35 rears, lowered about an inch, and i have never rubbed once. i like having the even sidewall height even though its not required for me. i think it is far more important on the x-drive

My vote is for option 2.

I bought my wheels from a forum member who had a RWD F30 335i. His PSS rear tires were bald, but the fronts had life left in them (originally 245/35/R19 and 265/30/R19). Since that setup wasn't going to play well with my xDrive, I replaced the rears with 275/30/R19's and have put about 2000 or so miles on them. There is some hesitation on hard acceleration for me with this setup, so I would not recommend it. The fronts are worn down now, so I need to replace them and don't want to get the PSS because I wouldn't be able to get replacements as easily so I ordered a setup with option 2 of the new PS4S. I think this will cure my hesitation issue and give me a good fresh start. Just my 2 cents.

Option 1. Your speedometer is going to read faster than it already does with a smaller radius.

It's also closest to the OEM 19 inch set up in overall diameter

Option 3, stock tires are 26.1" F and 26.0" R if you have the staggered 19's. Option 3 makes the tires roughly 25.8"F and 25.6"R, so your aspect ratio is almost identical. This also is proven size that tons of F30 members run.

Option 1, if you want a bit less wide of a tire and more sidewall for better ride quality.

I am also thinking about these tire sizes but the front wheels I am considering have ET 33 (rear 38). I am considering option 4 to get a slightly smoother ride and what I think would be the best tire fitment without stretch.
I am not sure about tire clearance in the rear though, I need to be certain that the tires will not rub.

Really? I just picked up a set of new wheels with those sizes mounted and I figured I'd have to replace the fronts with 235 width tires... If these are ok being 1.2% difference I just won't worry about it...

What option did you choose? I currently have option 2 and I am having some issues with traction control..

Hi,

Thanks to all for the input/recommendations.

Unfortunately I did not buy anything yet. I put on my old tires and have been running them so far. A number of the tires I selected are either not in the size I want to get a matching model for front/rear, or they are out of stock...which has happened to a friend looking for tires as well. I have narrowed down to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S which I will likely buy (being in Calgary wanted to get the AS3+ all seasons but out of stock or not in the size I wanted).

In terms of sizes, I have excluded options 3 and 4. Option 3 has a difference of 1.2% which is over the 1% difference in diameter that is recommended for the X-Drive. Option 4 just looks like there is too much sidewall/height compared to stock. Before the weekend I was set on option 2, but now leaning toward option 1 to have a bit more sidewall/ride quality.

Ali0056 - I am surprised you have traction control issues with the tires having the same overall diameter (front and rear). What manufacturer/model of tire do you have?

My tires are continental extremecontact sports. The only issue I can think of is that the overall diameter is less than OEM size. (25.5 vs 26 stock).

Did you ever solve your traction control problem?

I'm waiting on my rims to come in and have to make a decision on tire sizes this week. I'll probably go with option 1, as that's what been recommended to me. But option 4 looks intriguing.
I don't want any rubbing or traction issues. I'd also like to be able to throw some H&R or Dinan springs on eventually without any problems.
