I went to every check up with my wife, and by 16th week our doc confirmed that we were having a boy.

20th week we did structure. Counting fingers and toes and body parts and seeing how blood flowed in and out of the umbilical cord. I feel that our baby has zero privacy from his parents having a full look. Then there's that clay style 3D/4D interpretation of how your baby might look like right now. I don't think I expected to be able to see so much from this one Ultrasound machine.

This tech is really something.

We had a choice for 2 different down syndrome test, I forgot the percentage but one was higher accuracy than the other and cost more, we did that one.

Just a week ago my wife did another test to check if natural birth was okay based on her vaginal fluid

There's so many tests now, so I think I'm going to be surprised if my boy comes out as a girl.

do health insurance company's indirectly influence how you treat patience (what they will and will not cover)
Example an ortho dr gets 100% reimbursement for doing 1 hip replacement but if he does bi-lateral only 120% ...making it financially beneficial to do one at a time no matter the clinical impression

For docs seeing patients, the proceduralists that have a good volume make the most money....and it varies by geography

Neurosurgeons with spine surgery usually are in the $750 and up range
Cardiologists that do caths are usually in the $750 range (but are going down) and work their asses off
Plastics are all over the board...starving if in the wrong location to a million plus....but there are not a zillion of these guys making the big money.
Ortho if decent are are in the $450 to $750 range

But, the easy money is for the guys that are high up in the IT field...a CIO can get $750 for doing nothing...(and by nothing I mean being an administrator....)

Financial concerns don't affect what I do...other than trying to deny coverage for services that I think are necessary

thank you for your prompt response.

I have helped delivered a few kids myself. (firemans...in a poor inner city. ) only one went sour (breach) and a cord around the neck but i wont take credit for that as the medic was the front man was able to move it out of the way and mom and baby made it with no issues

you wrote how you have seen the worst, (i googled amniotic band..FML...Why does that happen?) how do you deal with delivering such devastating news to the parents? I have seen my own horror stories where the mother got high and passed out on their new born baby in the bed...a sight that can not be unseen. (we use humor but mostly bury it deep inside and move on)

Changing gears would you say it takes more brains to be a doctor or dedication where as what you lack in intelligence you make up in hard work and study? Read a candid interview where the neuro surgeon said he knew alot of brilliant DRs as his peers but alot more hard workers than Einsteins. that you dont have to be the smartest person in the room to be a neuro surgeon.

Do you think most Drs have bad bed side manner because they give up their 20s and lack that social interaction and growth within that period ?

Would you encourage your children to have a career in medicine?

Most doctors that have a bad bedside manner were born with it.

I believe the Health profession is a tiresome job from school until you have enough vacation/money to de-stress after years of punishment of lack of sleep and studying.
This is how I see the health sciences as an outsider looking in.
Does this sound like truth or?

Since this is car forum... is it true that when OB/GYNs work on their own cars, it's through the muffler?

Care to expand on that last part?
I thought nurses work crazy hours....why just the doctors,I know they have to do more schooling but I thought even the other professionals have it pretty hard too.

Well I'm a pharmacist and wife is an rn. Neither of us had the crazy doctor schedule experience. She did some nights in school for a bit but short term. Guess it depends if your in a hospital or not for your career.
