Well that sucks, you basically have a useless USB cable now (until you upgrade to Stage 2). And, you can't data-log. I would email Terry and say what up with that?

I attached a pic on my previous post showing what it looks like. Basically identical to yours minus the connection for the cable. |

Strange, my Stage 2 had the female connector at the end of it for the usb or whatever could go there.... Don't worry about spending on the USB cable b/c you WILL upgrade to stage 2 and then you'll need it

Guess there is less of a point of buying Stage 2 if you can adjust the boost on Stage 1. Edit: Jon from BMS responded to my email saying: "That is the correct box. USB support is not available for current stage 1 N55 boards. We would be happy to take the USB cable back if you send it to us. Sorry for the confusion. Best, Jon BMS" Last edited by tdizzle; 03-20-2013 at 08:48 PM.. |

It could just be mental, or maybe even the cooler weather, but I feel like I did feel a difference in acceleration today with the +4psi. Either way, the car feels good and I really don't see a downside to adding the half psi bump.

That's strange... i JUST received my stage 1 yesterday and installed it. I remember the end of mine looking like the first picture. Does this mean i can just buy the USB cable and customize the PSI on my N55 335i?

I'd be interested to know if there is a difference between the two boxes other than the software and the wired connections. That is the only reason I could think of why they would switch to the box without the connector (so people couldnt just have a stage 2 without paying for it since the software is free) Terry said "The Stage1 was changed a few weeks ago so that no user adjustment can be made. That will be reserved for Stage2." I knew I should've ordered it last month! |

I know the boards are diff between stage 1 & 2, so you can't just upload software to go stage 2.
I'll gladly let you order stage two & check out the install before I order mine, haha.

Well, if it's just a software difference, i'm pretty sure there's a way to just upload it. There shouldn't be much of a hardware difference unless there's additional plugs compared to the stage 1... is there??

Right, board wise it would be different if there were additional cables and such but if the input/ output of the hardware is the same, the only difference that could be different is the software that's in the box

Quick questions.
1. are there any extra cables that ships out with stage 2? 2. are there any extra cables we need to plug in?

Just the CAN connections, power, and ground (the 'extra' wires that you don't use in stage 1). I think with stage 2 they give you a different box and the other end of the connections for the extra wires. That's just from looking at the stage 2 instructions though. Seems you just swap the control module with the stage 2 version and connect the extra wires.

i was always wondering if there was a power source and i guess it's in the stage 2. I'm assuming that with the power and ground that it is in fact a separate hardware that needs power whereas the stage 1 doesn't.

Btw, are the times posted with Sport + on or off? totally forgot about Sport + mode since the install and today i realized it and turned it on. Even with stage 1, this car is freakishly fast

Just did a couple runs in anticipation of installing my stage 1 (probably tomorrow). Unfortunately, it looks like the weather will be terrible. It rained half the day today so the roads were moist but fairly dry.
I don't have a good setup to hold my camera to record so I couldn't do a real run using the paddle shifters so the car did its thing and shifted later than I'd like, but I figure it's a good baseline. Looks like, at least in the conditions today with my stock runflats, times are a bit faster without brake boosting over 2k. I got too much wheel spin when I brake boosted that high, better was about 1.8k. You can see the traction control kicking in and holding me down like the man. My tires weren't exactly warm so maybe that hurt them hooking up, and the fact that they're the stock runflats. Looks like with wheelspin I got around 5 seconds and around 4.8 without brake boosting much at all. Very unscientific obviously since I watched the video and used my phone as stop watch over and over. Anyway... |
