performance mods
Hi guys is it a bad idea to install a chip or air intake into my f30 328xi ? it is bad for the car? does it create wear on the engine? will it break anything or void warranty?
is it worth putting in? what are the best under the hood performance mods for this car? thank you |

Most performance mods for the N20/N26 engine are very worth it. BMS and aFe make some great tunes and intakes for your car. Also look into a down pipe. You do need to be careful about the warranty. It is always a good idea to have a close relationship with your service advisory Or just remove the tune when you go in for a tune up.

My personal review of the stage 1 BMS installed in my 2014 328i M sport from a few weeks ago... "Just an update: I Installed it yesterday and mentioned earlier in a post that my engine was still in cool-down mode after I had shut it off and got out... well it was probably due to the fact that it was a really hot and humid day out here in NY which is probably what caused it to happen and get so hot... Today, I went out for a spin after work, and it wasn't nearly as hot out, and just got home from another drive this past hour.. and really pushed it hard just to see if it would happen again, and nothing.. in fact the car was nice and cool and wasn't over heating or anything. So i'm not worried at all, the BMS stage 1 is GREAT so far! I really feel like I'm driving a stock 335.. it's THAT nice. I'm happy with it all, and definitely recommend it to anyone on the fence.. SO easy to install and NO I did not unplug battery or anything like that during install... took all of 15 min total, getting plugs out is the hardest part. I also noticed that todays drive's felt much better then when I initially installed it yesterday... So I feel like the more you drive, the better the car or the tune start to work together." 100% Worth it.

Hi,
It sounds that you have to a lot of reading on this forum before you start adding mods. Cons: More power= more pressure on the car Some dealerships do have problems with cars that have aftermarket mods and they might void your warranty pros: mods have been tested for a long time before being released thousands of people are using it with no problems reported LOTS of POWER you will never drive you car stock after you start modifying it. i suggest you start with a JB stage 1. It will give you a feeling of how the modding world is and you can decide if you want to continue modding or not. It is also very easy to uninstall in case you have a dealer visit.

Thousands of people are using it no problem. No one can guarantee 100% but it is safe to say that as long as you are cautious you should be fine.

I've got to say I love my scorcher tune. I had to take it off for a dealer visit and it's just so hard to enjoy the car without the extra grunt down low. When I first put it on I wasn't quite sure that it made such a huge difference but after driving a few days without it I can tell that it was money well spent.

They just answered the question a few times. You want a mod, start off with a tune - BMS Stage 1 or AFE scorcher.

My agent just said to me to remove my mods if i ran into any problems before sending the car in...
That said, they seem to be unable to detect the BMS Stage 1 should u remove it prior to servicing / repairs. |

You will want to remove any tune before going into your dealership.

Apparently both mods are undetectable after you remove them to take your car in for service.

Search around there was a thread the injector failed and threw a rod. No way turning up the boost a few psi will cause engines to throw rods unless the engine was made of paper Expect a recall for the N20 injectors soon |
