This is the downside to buying a new model. I've worked in the software industry for 30 years and avoid the first release of anything. Fact of life -- it takes awhile to get the bugs out. I bought at the end of the model cycle(s) and I'm glad I did.

How long after introduction would you buy?

I tend to do the same. Have had good luck with my later year models...

Bought a top of the line but recently released laptop that turned out to be a lemon. Had its predecessor which was stellar, which I bought when it was discontinued (therefore, end of the line) and it is still flawless years later! Since then, I've shyed away from first year models of anything. Of course, that's no guarantee and you also won't have the "new" model, but it's a personal preference...

So how long do you usually wait?

Except if nobody bought v1 then developers wouldn't know what to fix in v1.1

In the end there is some truth to the belief that brand new model years may have a higher number of initial quality issues, but we are still buying a BMW and have a right expect a BMW experience. Perfection is a little out of reach so as long as issues are not too frequent and they are addressed with the right quality and speed then I'm okay with that.

Sorry to hear there are more problems with the F30.

This friday they are going to fix my small ratlle in the steering column.

The steeringwheel is adjustable in 2 ways as we all might know. I have it on the highest possible.
And then the rattle occurs on bumpy streets.
It's a (rubber?dunno) coat wrapped around that steering column they are going to change they told me....

I'd wait until LCI, but I'm pretty conservative. Year 2 buys you a lot; year 3 is sort of the mop up year for longer term problems. Also, by year 3, the Service Department knows the model's strengths and weaknesses and knows what to look for, so service improves.

As Carnook notes, if no one bought version 1.0, there wouldn't be a version 1.1, so it's good that there are pioneers. It makes things better for later settlers like me.

And in the thousands of miles of testing from deserts to mountains to the north pole, this was never seen nor corrected? I hate how obvious issues seem to only show up in production.

Same goes for HPFP.

We shall see if more cars come down the pipe line. Could be different production date problems.

Damn, that sucks. I would say have them swap the tires but it sounds like other are haivng similar issue. I would say at the very least have them rotate front and rears, re balance and you should drive it to see how it is. After they rebalanced mine it helped a little but didnt fully resolve it. I figured they would probably take a while to find the solution so i said fuck it. good luck.

Asked my salesman friend here to check next time they are out on a test drive and he says they had no problems what so ever on a Sport Line and a Modern Line whiel specifically looking for this vibration.
Must be a German factory error.

Honestly, if it was me, and it really bothered me i would make them replace the car. I have had 2 cars lemoned by holman. ONe an E60 for a window issue, and an E90 for a trasnmission issue. Call them today and tell them you want them to open a PUMA case on the car. Thats part of the process, they will document and fly in an engineer from BMWNA.

^tetiker... good news, let us know...thx

they already opened a puma case 2-3 days ago.. i think that was required in order to get the tires replaced.

doesn't the lemon law require 30 days worth of service?

Either 30 days, or 3 different times to fix it and they cant fix it. I had a window issue where the window has a mind of its own, and i would get to my car in the morning to find a window down lol... What the other guy said about a new steering box sounds like the most promising fix so far...cant really think of what else could be causing it becuase it really is only noticeable between 40-65

They ended up replacing my e60, which was cool becuase i leased it and i just picked up the lease when i got the new car, so i had it for like 20 months but the value of the car was very high to what the payoff was, i had equity and was able to get out the e60 and right into an N54 with nothing out my pocket and montly payment of 500. Good luck
