Not sure if this is what you mean: but to pull the wipers away from the windshield/windscreen, there is a special process. I can't remember it exactly (have a look in the manual), but it's something like turn ignition on and off, hold wiper stalk in up position for 3 seconds, and the wipers will then stay in an 'up' position, allowing you to then safely fold them back and away for washing.

Hope this helps?

My gti was the same way you have to get your wipers in a upward position before you can lift.

The reason for this AFAIK is that it keeps the wipers out of the air stream when not in use, thereby reducing coefficient of drag and improving highway gas mileage.

Trunk [boot] lid opening

I am yet unsure how "cool" this "feature" is, but my left cheek can, at will, open the trunk [boot] while I am sitting on the porch. . . .

2 ways to close side mirrors - Comfort access and FOB

Not sure if anybody mentioned this earlier n not sure if US n Europian specs work like this but here in Dubai when u long hold the 3 lines on the comfort access door handle, the mirrors auto close after locking the doors by couple of seconds. Naturally, mirrors auto open when car is unlocked either by comfort access or FOB. stuff!

And:
Long pressing unlock on FOB also opens all windows n unfolds side mirrors.
Long pressing lock on FOB also closes all windows n closes/folds side mirrors.

Hope that was useful

^this

I had an e350 rental car this last weekend and at the speeds my caravan was going, those darn things were smacking the heck out of the windshield. I think it's a combo of keeping them out of the airstream for a barely-measurable gas efficiency reason (I'm sure it saves a gallon of gas every 10k miles. The additional components of it probably cost more than the gas it saves), for blade longevity, and it looks better than a competitor's alternative. (They tried to tuck it, but doesn't go as far as it should IMO... makes it look like garbage)

US spec cars don't do this, but they can with coding. My car does all of those things and more thanks to forum member Frogman. He helped me code in all kinds of cool features.

I just had this happen to me on my new 335i. I thought I threw it in park and hopped out but quickly found it slowly rolling backwards. Not sure if I accidentally put it neutral but it wAs a little nerving on the second second day having it!

Can someone try this, I just tried it in an X5 but that one has the electronic parking brake. If I start the car with the electronic hand brake on and the door open, the car will allow me to drive it after I release the hand brake and start driving while the door is open. I am away from home and do not have the F30 till tomorrow. Wondering if this works with the manual hand brake but it would be great if this can work on the F30 too.

I will respond to my own post above. Yes you can disable the feature that stops you from driving if your door is open. As stated above before you put the car in drive (auto trans), make sure the handbrake is applied. Once you put it in drive, remove the hand brake and you are good to go.

I think if you start the car with the door open it'll let you drive it also.

That has not worked for me before but I will give it a try again today

This does work as I once got back into my car to move it a little further back in a parking spot and was able to do so with the door open.

Then this would not have been reported as a problem in the first place right (see post 959). The issue was you get in your car and the door is not properly closed, start the car and the car will not allow you to drive and will revert to neutral the moment you hit the accelerator.

What you guys are essentially saying is the car will drive irrespective of whether the door is open or closed.

I am very confused here

I think the difference is not closing the door prior to starting > putting the car in gear. If you've already closed the door then try to open it and move it acts differently.

It's been awhile since I did it, but close all doors/lock the car, then unlock it and open the door, leave the door open and start it then put it in gear without closing the door, it should let you move.

Yes this is true, I tried it today. We were skinning the same cat. If there has been no attempt made to close the door the car will move. However if the door has been closed but not firmly shut then the car will not move, the only way out is the handbrake approach.

I've had two bits of plastic floating around in my boot/trunk since I picked my car up. Thanks to this thread, I finally realised where they go! They're the bag hooks! I stuck them into the holes and can now hang bags up in my boot. Awesome.

Is it possible to change the comfort access to unlock all doors instead of just to the one door that is touched?

Sure, just change the unlock to all doors in Settings -> locks
