The only benefit I can see in the IS design is that it makes it difficult to target with a laser/radar gun. If not...yuck.

Looks like every other brand out there is struggling to come up with a new identity.

How many people had similar reactions about the F30's grille and headlamps?

Holy crap is that fugly.

The cockpit, wheel, cluster and seats look damn good, but I don't like the linear dash stretching over to the passenger side (hated it in the E90 series as well).

The rear view is actually nice looking, until you get slightly around the corner, at which point the tail lights look like a sad stroke victim or Bell's Palsy.

The Nike swooshes under the headlights are just bizarre.

The front is an abortionate hybrid of a regular sedan and a teenager's drawing of a futuristic alien supercar. A couple of nice lines in there (like around the side intakes), but a whole lot of what the fark.

I like the design of the BMW better!

PS: I'm quite sure the Lexus won't have any wind noise issues though! Lol!!!!!

I'm not one to bash everything that isn't a BMW like some folks, but holy mother of God that's ugly as hell.

I'll try to be objective in my subjectivity

Kudos to Lexus for going out on a limb - takes some balls. BMW has done this before (Bangle-era shit) and has been burned, I think (in my opinion, the last 3-series was a classic abortion). In this case, I think they went out on a limb, perhaps went a bit too far, and the limb may break... What is good, though, is that this is what I would expect Japanese futurism to look like; so, they're en pointe there. "Different" may attract a big crowd (though I disagree about the younger crowd; I have 27 years of age and this would have been too cartoonish for me even ten years ago).

The comparison pictures between the two are great - the BMW looks like a timeless, conservative piece of German automotive engineering. Handsome, well-proportioned, and sombre in its purposeful perfection - it's comforting to look at. The IS is the opposite, and I think that's a good thing for both BMW and Lexus in that both these cars represent the stereotype of their respective origins.

I do like certain aspects of the interior design, particularly that lovely LFA-like gauge cluster. I still think the simplicity of BMW's design mantra (aesthetic perfection through the pursuit of purpose and function) reigns supreme, but this is a nice modern twist on clean design. I like it. Other than that, I'm not really a fan of the "Start" button placement or the multi-tiered layout (Fiat Multipla, anyone?)

Are there any really classic Japanese designs out there. I like the Datsun 240Z and the Nissan 300ZX 1990 - 96 and that's it. Think of all the ugly Supras, MR2s, Mitsubishi 3000 GTs, Acura TLs etc etc out there. Would you want to own any of them when the new wears off?

I do like the interior design and the side lines of the car look fine. But that front end just makes me hurl. I will still like my m sport 5 years from now! Good design lasts and becomes classic.
Apparently lots of people still own supras, mr2's, 3000 gt's, etc so I don't know what you're saying when the "new," wears off, they, or most of these are old and over 20 years ; )

The image of the Predator popped in my head as well as well Arnold's quote "You're one UGLY MF!".

After looking at the pics for a while... I don't think it's that bad besides from the front angle. The car looks pretty aggressive, looks like it got twisted from the back all the way to the front.

Still don't know why they decided to use the F-Sport name. I think there are better choices out there besides using -Sport.

F30 still wins tho.

I don't think it's that ugly. I think it's very bold design and I like the rear. I really dislike the separation between the headlight and the LED strip. If it wasn't there, I think it would look much better.
