Anyway to activate Siri w/ the steering wheel control?
I noticed that when I push the Siri button, I can fully initiate an ask through the F30(via bluetooth). Is there any way to do this without using the iphone (ie. on the steering wheel)? I tried holding the talk button, but no luck. Thoughts?

For those that didn't realize, you can use Siri 99% handsfree and eyesfree in your F30. Just push and hold the Home button on the iPhone, put it down, and from there you can use just your voice to do the rest, no looking at the screen, no button pushes needed. I never needed Siri out of the car, but in it it's an amazing help. You can have texts read to you and you can dictate outbound texts too. If you get a text while driving, Siri will read it to you and ask if you want to reply. Push and hold the Home button, put the iPhone in the cupholder, and ask: "What's the weather like tomorrow?" "How windy is it out there?" "What's the score of the Yankees game?" "What movies are coming out this weekend?" "Post on Facebook 'On my way to the beach in my 3 Series'" "Remind me to call my mom when I get home" "Any new email from Michael today?" "What is today's date?" "What's the date this Saturday?" "Wake me up tomorrow at 7am" "What does the rest of my day look like?" "What's on my calendar for Friday?" "When is my next appointment?" "Schedule a planning meeting at 8:30 today in the boardroom" You can do this right now in your F30, just have to hit the Home button then put your iPhone down. It isn't. Will be truly epic when it is though - I sincerely hope they apply a software patch to change one of the useless steering wheel buttons like Mode to Siri

Correct, but everything else works except for the first press and hold on the Home button.
Once Siri is activated, put the phone down, speak through the cars' microphone, listen through the cars' speakers. To end the session, press the phone button on the steering wheel. BJ |

I just purchased my first BMW and picked it up last week. Loving the car (2010 323i) but I do wish I could activate Siri from the steering wheel. It is nice that Siri works if I use the button on the phone but it would be great if I could just use the steering wheel button.
I'm curious if getting a new Bluetooth car stereo that is advertised to work with Siri could be a solution. Once it's installed in the car, would the steering wheel buttons be connected to it and the be able to control Siri? Has anyone tried something like this? |

Yes, i never have to take the phone out of my pockets to use Siri, listen to music, check texts/emails, etc...a long hold will activate Siri through the speakers and a short one will activate the car's voice command system

I looked into that a while back regarding the software updates and the dealers I spoke to were either clueless about it or said it wasn't available. Maybe try calling BMW Genius and see if they know?

Siri "Eyes Free" can be coded if you have NBT and not CIC. F30 2012+. There may be other minimum requirements that I'm not aware of. Check with BimmerTech.

NICE! I (think) I have NBT. I have had my car coded, but didnt see this feature in the f30 coding cheat sheet. I would assume you still need the software update from the dealer which also allows coding of the launch control (and sport +?) for MY13? |

This is the first time I'm hearing about this and this changes everything! At least for 2014 cars with NAV. Siri opens up so many doors. Without using your hands!

What do you mean? Other's here have said that siri stays on listening for further prompts. As for Siri being useless, I don't think you are using it right as it does anything you could want, at least for me.
