Swapping winter/summer tires not rims
It that possible? Instead of buying a new set of rims with snow tires + sensors? Have the same rims and only swap the rubber every season? Or that would damage the tires or cause any other unexpected issue
Just curious

^ This is a common practice. You shouldn't have any issues

Are you intending to use the OEM run-flats as your summer tires? I've heard that the stiff sidewall of the RFTs are easily damaged with repeated mounting/dismounting from wheels. As painful as it might be, I think the better course of action might be to invest in dedicated winter wheels/tires. Plus, you can swap them out yourself with each change of season, which makes the exorbitant expense of separate rims/tires a little more bearable.
At the same time, if someone from VMR thinks it is OK, I'd probably defer to them over me! |

How long do you plan to keep the car?
After a few seasons it would be cheaper to buy some used wheels for winter use instead of swapping the tires two times a year. The tires will hold for a number of swaps, but I would recommend doing this too many times on a single tire. |

I expect to run another 10K this year on the original tires before December arrives, I believe that by end of the year those original tires will be almost gone, so I would imagine I have to swap the original the tires only once if that even happens, and soon it is GONE for good I will keep the winter tires on those rims for good and buy myself a nice set 19" for the summer. BTW, I'm planing to keep the car for another 5 years at least. |
