ecopro coasting

I own a 07/12 made n13 8AT f30. I notice that newer f30s with the same engine come up with coasting feature in ecopro. i learnt that i could force this onto my vehicle by simply changing the production date however I wonder whether this coasting feature has been brought along with some other mechanical improvements on the transmission.

It has. There is a cooling pump for the transmission. People who coded coasting in where getting trans overheating codes

What is needed to FDL code Eco-Pro Sailing? I have the CIC so

I coded:
Kombi>3000 Anzeige_Konfigration>SEGELN_Enable>aktive
HU_CIC>3000 HMI>EFF_DYN_SAILING>aktive
ICM>3000 Daten>C_Segeln_vorhanden>enable

but don't see the option under Eco-pro for coasting. What else am I missing?

My notes show that you also have to code the transmission (EGS) as follows:

EGS / 3000 / SEGELN to aktiv
EGS / 3000 / POCHEN to aktiv
EGS / 3000 / NIC_alt to aktiv

Note that I have not actually tried this, so I can't verify that it actually works or not.

Also heed the warning above by TheScout about overheating your transmission if you enable Sailing with a transmission that does not have the auxiliary cooling pump.

Thanks for the info. Probably not something I will have 'on' and risk overheating the transmission. Though I edited the 3 EGS sections, still don't see the option for coasting under Eco-Pro.

Doesn't work if you have CIC. Coasting is a feature only available on Fxx vehicles built after 07/13 and those cars would have HU_ENTRY or HU_NBT. It's a limitation on the HU_CIC firmware.

Coasting shows up on my HU_NBT and my friend's HU_ENTRY but when I tried with my old HU_CIC, it will not show up regardless of whether I VO code it or FDL code it.

I only had overheating issues when I VO coded EGS with 07/13. Enabling the sailing never gave me the heating issue but the car has definitely stalled on more than one occasion.

Thank you for the info. I've already reverted back to original since I figured it wouldn't work on my vehicle.

Not to beat a dead horse on this subject, but if you have coded the parameters listed above on a CIC and don't have the option to turn on Sail Mode ON or OFF, does the Sail Mode default to ON when you're on Eco-Pro mode? Or would the coding have no affect since it can't be seen or controlled through the CIC? Just curious since Aritaurus got the overheat transmission code and felt stalling on his vehicle which had the CIC, so curious as to how the Sail Mode was turned on.

To answer your question, yes it would be default on at all times. I actually have a retrofitted HU_NBT and the option to turn on/off Eco Pro coasting does show up but when I uncheck it, the coasting option remains active unless I disable it via coding.

I have a feeling that I need to VO code the 07/13 build date to another ECU before this works but it's not worth trying since my car has stalled a number of times with this feature on.

If you have NBT, then the build date should not matter for you.

My build is May 2013 with the CIC. When I went to FDL code, all the options to enable sailing were there, but from others, it was not working correctly because there may be other modules that may or may not need to be updated plus I can't even see the option to turn on or turn off sailing due to the limitation of the CIC system.

In your case, you would need to enable sailing on your EGS module since your vehicle is a pre-2014 model even though you have NBT.

That sucks, maybe update would do it. maybe you need to do more coding ?! I had problems with my idrive and dealer changed head unit with latest software. so I tried it and it worked like charm
I did a video showing how it works, very simple and it did save some gas at least in our roads !

I'm a bit confused. Your build date is March 2013 on a 328 but when they changed your head unit, they replaced it with an HBT unit?

Glad sailing works for you, though.

He's probably from Europe where NBT was available on the F30 since November 2012.

No, it was NBT since I bought it

One more parameter might be required for other people, on top of rustyminded's parameters:

ICM > 3000 Daten > IcmKod_B_AuskuppelnOK > aktiv

Before coding this, my revs would not go to idle. Is this parameter active in your ICM Rustyminded?
