Maybe I'm missing something here, but it doesn't seem possible to make any alterations to music imported onto the hard disk (Nav Pro system) such as renaming or deleting tracks or albums. While the manual talks about it, as far as I can see it only refers to CDs that you've imported and not to MP3s that you imported via USB.

Is this really the case, as it makes it a real pain in the *** to make even small changes to the stored music without wiping it and re-importing it all again.

You can delete a track or delete/rename an entire album/collection using the option button.

I have not found a way to rename an individual track or add a track to an existing album. I have to wipe and re-import the whole thing.

I'm finding it much easier to just put my stuff on a big USB stick and play it directly from there. Playing from USB remembers the random setting (playing from HD does not) and I can modify the stick anytime I want on the computer.

Thanks for that - that's pretty much the conclusion I'd come to, that it's just easier to use a USB stick. That and the fact that album art doesn't work from the hard disk. Sort of makes the whole hard disk thing a complete waste really as it's been so poorly implemented.

I use the HD for things that I won't ever change and the USB stick for my dynamic stuff. The HD is only about 12GB anyway, I just bought 3 32GB sticks and switch between them. Annoying, but not a big deal.

I went on eBay and bought one of the old hard drive based iPods. It is an 80gig and was advertised as the headphone jack inoperable. The apple port works great (which is all you need) and it hardly cost me anything. 80 gig holds way more than I'll need, and I get the artwork, which you lose with the USB sticks...

That's a good way to go too, but you might want to put it in a soft case to prevent shocks to the HD while driving.

I have a 16GB iPod nano that I use for podcasts and stuff; it works great plugged in via the standard apple cable and it doesn't have any moving parts. As you say, I get album art, etc that way too.

No, you don't lose the artwork with a USB stick, it works fine. You do lose it if you import your mp3 files onto the hard disk though.

I believe this changed with the NBT Nav system. I am unable to rename a track or album that was imported by CD. It's a bit of a pain and an annoying oversight on BMW's part.
