DIY: Morimoto Projectors & Custom Angel Eyes Retrofit

I came upon blueaudi18's thread on custom angel eyes and was blown away by his craftsmanship. I was ready to fork up money to get mine done as my 2014 F30 had the ugly halogens . Unfortunately, he stopped his production of these awesome angel eyes . Check out his thread here: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=826108

Well... I decided to take a stab at it. I retrofitted Morimoto projectors for the low beams and made some angel eyes/corona lights based on blueaudi18's design, but just the oem shape. Let me know what you think (pics are just from iPhone camera)

And I'm not just stopping there, no sir, I'm also calling out the rest of these people that keep giving me (the cheap guy that didn't get the light package) false hope that one day my f30 will have some beautiful angel eyes and xenons

Where did you get the LEDs from and how hard was it to make the acrylic (i assume that's acrylic) extrusions? It looks pretty dope!

Any tips to get the headlight housing open? I heard the perma-seal is even harder to open than previously, and baking for 250 for 10 mins is not enough to do the job...

LOL! well i barely got my the F30 a few weeks ago and the halogens annoyed me so much i had to do something about it, but couldn't afford the OEM xenon retrofit. it took me a long time to put these together, like 5 LONG and stressful days lol.

thanks boss! yeah it's acrylic or plexiglass. I gotta say the hardest part was pulling the headlight open. don't bother baking them. I used a combo of heat gun and a hooked/angled scribe get em open.

If you do that, i assume you gotta do it a section at a time... was a 1500w heat gun enough to do the job? And does the softened perma-seal make a mess of the housing when you pry it apart?

yup, you really have to take your time and go little at a time. the heat gun was just to soften the back housing a little since the adhesive they used is pretty much heat resistant. i might just put a diy in the near future if people have the time to try it haha

dang it... if you put together a detailed diy with pics, i'll be the first guinea pig The craftsmanship on the acrylic is spot on bro - you either do this for a living or are super OCD about detail ... in any case, wow dude. i want a pair of those rings

You should consider selling this "kit". You would make some nice "play" money that could pay for more mods!

thanks a lot brutha. and it's definitely OCD! haha! hence the reason i'm hesitant on making a DIY or doing them for people because there's a few things i wanna perfect first. it stresses me out lol

yeah i really thought about it. I would have to go back to the drawing board and see how possible it would be. but the play money would be nice

hah! nice timing. Where were you last week when I started this process? HAHAHAH. Anyway, how did the mini gatling shrouds work for you? Did you have to do much trimming? I went with the e46R shrouds and they have been a bit of a PITA.

where was I? I was pulling my hair out last week when i did this the mini gatling fit pretty snug and didn't require any trimming. but if I was to do it again I might have to make little adjustments to make more room for adjusting light output. the e46 shroud was a lot bigger so i would assume it was a pita haha. good luck tho!
