Wow, that sucks!

Parts as in port installed parts or have you confirmed something is being swapped out? Perhaps the MPE demand is more than they expected?

Nope. Read through the above for info on the whole situation.

Apparently there is a faulty fuel tank affecting 340i's and mine is being held at the port having it replaced.

Man, that must be frustrating to have it be so close but out of reach!

One way to look at it, I suppose, is perhaps it's a safety fix with the fuel tank. Wouldn't want to risk anything there. Saw an accident once that I wish I hadn't...

I hadn't seen this, totally sucks. My 340xi is on a boat in the English Channel currently so won't hit the VPC for a bit. Still, one more thing to worry about. Hope you get good news soon.

I'd be feeling the same way as you right now, but for some perspective the most likely outcome is that the car is fine, you love it, and you look back and laugh at how much this stressed you out.

Here's hoping at least. Oh, and remind me I said this if my car ends up in VPC purgatory.

Appreciate the comments guys! I'm hoping I look back and laugh at this as well. Going to try and use this as a bargaining chip at least.

Just a quick update for anyone following this thread, since both mtx and I had 340's produced and shipped in similar time frames (I think). Mine arrived at the port of Baltimore on Sunday, was sent to the VPC on Monday, and was released to a carrier today. BMWNA did mention there was record of 1 work order being opened and completed today before it was released to the carrier, but they couldn't tell me what it was. If all goes well, my car should be at the dealer in Chicago on Saturday. So stoked!

Mtx... best of luck with your situation. I'm curious to hear how this works out for you, and hope it all gets sorted out quickly.

Sigh, that makes me think there is something specific to my car. Was your car built in Munich? Do you have any port installed accessories?

He's an SA build. I've seen him posting on my thread.

Mine was a South Africa build. I didn't add any extras specific to the port but I'm not 100% sure if all of my build specs were taken care of in SA or if some were added on at port - just not sure how that works. In case you're interested, my build with packages is:

340i xDrive
Cold Weather Package
Driver Assist
Driver Assist+
M Sport
Track Handling
19" 442M Orbit Grey Wheels

Okay, good to know. We might need to wait until another Munich build comes into a VPC.

I just wish I had more info from someone other then my CA. She's my only source of info and I can't validate it with anyone else. I hope my car wasn't damaged and they are not releasing info to me.

Have you tried speaking with BMWNA recently? Just curious because in my case I've found they've had more accurate info than my CA.

I've been calling BMW Genius. Is that who you are speaking with?

They don't have any info at all. They can just tell me the work order on my car started.

No I've been calling 800-831-1117, going into vehicle production status and then asking for a rep. Might be a dead end but can't hurt to try.

I found this another another thread, back in 2012. Have you tried this number?

Also I wouldn't worry about damage and them not telling you. They can't legally sell you a car as "new" if it's had damage during shipping.

Thanks guys. I tried that number and they didn't have any info.

The NJ VPC number is for European Delivery. They won't help you unless that's how you purchased the car.

I'll wait to see what my CA tells me this Friday.

My Munich 340xi build will be at the Port (in California) at the end of the week and we'll see what happens when it gets there. Your troubles have certainly raised my paranoia levels!

That's not true here in New York at least. Lots of cars even with their protective Transportation wrap on them still can be seen in body shops with damaged bumpers, scratched panels etc. Being in a related field I can tell you that I'm not just talking about one or two dealerships here.

100% true. One time I took delivery at PCD and the delivery specialist HAD to disclose any repairs. In this car it was a few small dents on the roof rails which were replaced completely at PCD/VPC. I had to sign the agreement before taking delivery. Never experienced any issues what so ever and like most will say on this forum - the techs at PCD/VPC are experts. I only take delivery at PCD due to the extra care they give my car at delivery.

Agree! Especially the detailers at PCD. I love my black cars and they leave them swirl free.

My mother recently took delivery at a local dealer that was also black. I insisted she doesn't get it washed by them but she did any way. Never seen so many swirls on a brand new car.

Ugh. that makes me sad. I will murder someone at my dealer if they wash my car during service. ha

My 70+ grandma picked up her 640xi GC last at PCD!! She ordered her first BMW ever with individual int/ext combo. haha No swirls!

Today is 3 weeks since the car arrived at the VPC. I was supposed to get an update from my CA today and as expected, never did. Still stuck at the VPC.

Mega sigh.....
