Tire size for oem 403m wheels.

Question for the fitment experts:
Car: 2014 335xdrive msport (w/big brakes)

Can I step up to a 225/45/19 front and 255/40/19 in the rear on an oem 403m wheel set?

Looking at options for more sidewall without messing up xdrive.

Let me know.

If you have Xdrive, I'd stick with factory star marked tyres. There have been a few threads in the UK part of the forum where the general consensus is that star marking is more important for Xdrives as it potentially keeps the rolling radius the same across different tyre sizes. There's been quite a few reports of transfer box issues where people haven't fitted star marked tyres.

Thanks for the info, I thought the star marked tire signified a bmw oem approved tire?? As long as the tires are the same aspect ratio (from everything I read on here) I'm assuming that would word. But now you have me concerned!! Lol

oem diameter is approximately 26". the tire sizes you listed are a profile size up, both 27", and will not cause any issue to x-drive system. there may be possibility of contact with the spring perch or rubbing the fenderwell liner at full lock but i don't think it will. while taller 27" tires reduces fenderwell gap it also increases the total vehicle height 0.5"(not necessarily a bad thing if you want more ground clearance). increased height along with thicker tires will cause it to look more 4x4ish imo. in theory, heavier and taller tires should cause a degradation in acceleration and braking performance albeit very slight. if you don't care about any of this, post some pics after they're installed so we can see the result.

personally, i prefer to remain with sizes that are at or near oem spec 26". if more sidewall is desired i go to a smaller diameter wheel with larger aspect ratio such as 225/45, 255/40 18" factory option.

This is my F31 with 1” taller winter tires (225/55-17, dia. 27”).

The offset of the wheels are 32, ie 4mm more aggressive than the front 403 wheels.

Damn that's a lot of meat!! Lol. Winter is understandable I'm just trying to protect a 19" wheel better.

I have style 403 for summer. Will go with 245/40-19 front and 255/40-19 when it’s time to change.

Those sizes only work with RWD though.
