I have mixed opinions regarding this topic. I have a black F30 myself that is debadged with the stock M-sport badging on the steering wheel and the rims. I, personally, would never put an M-badge on the trunk lid just because I am well aware where my car stands in comparison to a real M3 and see the M3 as a goal to reach eventually (hopefully).

However, anyone who is knowledgeable enough to know what an M-badge there means, will do no more than scoff (maybe laugh) if they see it on a non-M car.

I personally have more leniency towards say an Alpina roundel on a non-Alpina car with a few of the Alpina mods. In my opinion, yes Alpina does sell very different vehicles whole, but the mods do exist for say an F30, and there is nowhere near as much ‘posing’ displaying an Alpina roundel than slapping an M3 badge on an F30.

Lots will disagree but I see Alpina badging as another M-sport package. Note: the point of posing for me would be putting the Alpina trunk lid badging say B6 or B3 biturbo because that directly refers to the engine and is not a general umbrella that some parts of this car have Alpina flair to it (interior, rims).

To each their own?

Alpina’s are nice and I like the way you mentioned the b3 or b6 as that does refer to the engine.Very well said.
That might be a more exclusive route in the future. “ I traded in my M car because there are too many m division or m packaged vehicles on the road and I bought an Alpina .” B6 or M6 hmmm

Going to be honest, didn’t expect someone to agree with me on this!

Even for someone who isn’t in the market for a full Alpina car, I feel as if the Alpina brand is more mod-centralized than M-sport. Personally, I do not see an M-sport car with a few Alpina mods, with Alpina roundels as tacky at all. Alpina represents less of a car to me and more of an aesthetic. Not to say that Alpinas aren’t known for their engines/mods. Whereas M is more of a car and less about the aesthetic. I blame BMW for that as it’s not always been that way, because they slapped the M on everything.

Seriously considering Alpina roundels on my Black F30. Man, would that look nice. Would pair nicely with a set of Alpina rims I have my eye on.

Have no idea why it would be an affront I just made an observation after the 50,000th thread about the same thing with the same posts, even mine.

As for the people you are calling names it must bother you that some don't like what you did to the car, truck whatever. If you like what you did why should you feel it necessary to defend it to a bunch of people you don't even know?

Me, I just do what I please period. Had caliper covers on my 2011 335is & run a COYOTE motor in my COBRA replica (one of the first to install one) instead of a 427. Been changing cars for a very long time going back to a full repaint & body mods on my first car in 1960, but everything I do is to please myself not other people.

I live in an area with a lot of trophy wives and it feels like their official car brand is AMG. I frequently see them hopping into an AMG-something, like an S63, SL63, etc. Never seen one hop into an //M anything though

what about this for example.
OEM M2 m performance grilles on a m235i

kept the ///M , removed the 2.

the rear is debaged btw. the grille ///M is the only exterior ///M badge. no other badges on the outside.

That's different imo. It's the same as people putting Dinan badging or buying Cobb license plate frames. I still wouldn't ever do it personally, and i think the new trends of stickers and decals are slightly less off-putting. But then you also have the people that slap K&N/Jegs/etc. stickers on their car because they bought a new radiator hose from an online store.

The problem is that ///m was a classification before it was a package. and now they are dumbing it down, which makes it seem more viable to a lot of people. but i think many enthusiasts still won't support it based on principle. even the "mperformance" decals are better than simply an ///m. but if it were me, those would go too lol.

I would never put and M3 badge on a 3 series. But I wouldn't mind an M-Performance badge on my M-sport. It already has M logos on the steering wheel, door sills, rims.

Simple fact is the MB is a more prestigious brand & BMW is a sport/performance brand.

Trophy wives are into prestige more then outdoor sports.

Type R sounds about right...

Ya i agree. really nice but I would take of the badge too. For me its always been don't make your car something its not. M badges on an msport still makes me cringe. i wish they took them all off

Exactly right. I feel like it's a bit more comfortable too. The M cars can be jumpy and stiff compared to the AMG. All a status symbol.

We need more M tourings cars over here!!

Coyote on a Cobra replica sounds very interesting. Actually, no one has insulted my car yet - but it is a shit colored base AWD so its only a matter of time. You are right on me being a over-sensitive as I am used to truck forums being more supportive than critical, and I couldn't help from being rubbed the wrong way after seeing several negative threads (like the title of this one). I am also old with dozens of builds (some approaching 6 figures), but I am looking to bargain build this one (kids will be driving it next year and it can't be too fast). I'm definitely down with pleasing oneself...

Why afix m badges to your car anyway. If you're going to badge do it right and adorn your car with the only real choice......

Hellcat!

I'm considering adding a couple to my f36.

Yes, they've been out for awhile...they use i-VTEC now, and VTEC for the last few decades. I'm not a Honda expert but I think all their engines use i-VTEC. My old 2004 accord with a base 2.4L engine had i-VTEC.

First post for me but I have been thinking of these issues for awhile. I noticed this years ago with Audi and BMW and didn’t like it. I never had one until now—just bought a 2016 340i with M Sport package. I absolutely love the car and can’t wait to begin modifying it. I should probably make a few payments first though! I have done just a few cosmetic things like change the terrible chrome license plate holders and put in new dual slat kidney grilles with the M colors on them. I actually wanted to order the full black but I have to admit that I really like the colors so I will keep them!
So, while I am not going to be putting any M badges on (the grilles only have the colors and not any badges), there are quite a few M details that came with the package. I love the steering wheel and door sills. I will probably debadge the back just because I like the clean look and it will be easy to wash as well.
I am a complete new owner so I will be scouring these forums to get good ideas and drool over the pics! Here’s to many fun modifications in the coming years and finally having a car worth really driving.
