F30 320D 2012 steering rack fault.
Steering rack fault.
Hello everybody, this is my first post. Has anyone had a similar experience to me with my 320d Luxury auto BMW 2012? 2 weeks after delivery of my brand new car it started knocking/rattling on the front offside wheel, you could hear it and feel it in your hands and feet. The fault was traced to a faulty steering rack. The dealer changed it and the fault remained. The newly fitted steering rack was also faulty. It was changed again. That cured the fault but it returned 6 months later. The rack was changed again. The car is now 2 years old and has had 5, that's right 5 (five) steering racks fitted. The dealership has been very good all the way through this nightmare and has looked after me with a constant supply of hire vehicles. It's now April 2014 and the fault is starting again. I did a Google search and found lots of complaints worldwide about the steering rack fault, I wish I knew about that 2 years ago. BMW are now involved and I am awaiting the outcome. Has anyone else had the same experience with their 320d? |

Yeah my 2012 328i has exhibited very similar behaviour since I got it. Doesn't really bother me though, especially as I know there is no definite fix for it. It's only over low speed, lock-on bumps anyway.

Yes I have a 2012 320D with the same issue.
it only happens over bumpy roads. I have reported to my dealer and it is going in soon for a check and review by the Service Manager. I understand that BMW are aware of the problem but based on the numerous complaints about the issue, they still don't seem to have a workable fix for the problem. |
