the deal here is: 335 is great but you pay what its worth, but cts-v and is-f were much more expensive as u correctly stated comparable to m3. i will try to get a drive in both this is research of some sort amongst the people who know cars and can be more or less objective

I would add M3 to that list. Might have to be a used one, but there's lots of them out there. I voted for the V because I'm a gear head and the power potential on those is pretty silly. Lots of aftermarket support.

Once again, M3 and C63 would easily run over IFS and Caddy, but lease prices (at this point of time) aren't comparable.

OP stated the cars he was comparing were comparable lease prices. Have you actually shopped and negotiated pricing (with apples to apples options) or what are you basing that on?
I question how the CTS-V, which when optioned similarly to a 335 is still a good ten grand more on the sticker, could lease the same or even in the same neighborhood. |

The CTS-V has the best performance of the ones you listed, and is overall a great car from what I've read. I don't think I would choose it over the BMW though. Just not really a fan of Cadillac's styling and persona.

I've had experience with every car on your list. I've owned 4 BMW 3 series, just upgraded to an S4, and my Dad has owned the CTS-V and IS-F.
The IS-F should be crossed off your list for a daily driver off the bat. I loved it in almost every way except the ride is absolutely terrible. If you have even average roads to drive on you won't be happy. Some roads literally made us feel a little sick because it was so rough and bouncy. Awesome to drive though. The CTS-V is cheaper on the inside than the others and the seats are the worst in the bunch to me (though that's subjective). It's fast but it didn't feel very fast or aggressive to me. Still was a great, fun car but if you're looking at CTS-V price range, get an M3 or especially a C63. My Dad got rid of the CTS-V for the new Audi RS5. Obviously I just got an S4 so I'll recommend an S4 over the new 335i. It's more fun to drive for me, definitely faster, better interior, and I like the looks a lot more than the new 3 series. Don't tear me a new one for liking the S4 more. I came from a 2007 3 series coupe with tons of M-Sport, BMW performance, and aftermarket mods. I get WAY more looks and compliments on the S4 than I ever did with my last BMW. Plus I think the E92 coupe looks way better than the new F30. So overall the S4 is the best combo of luxury and sport for a DD to me. But you gotta make your own choice. Oh and my family has had no trouble with Audi reliability or service. |

So am I nuts for wanting to trade in my 2009 C63?
I am looking at a S4 or maybe saving a few bucks and going with a Volvo S60 R design or X1 35i The price of the s4 is the same as a 335xi m sport even when adding the Audi care to cover maintenance. And the seats in the Audi are nicer. In fact with the same options the S4 is $56,920 with audi care maintenance and the 335xi m sport is $56,820. Nappa leather in Audi is really nice though. I only have 30,000 miles on my C63 but have to replace tires every 10,000 and don't even drive it that hard (lots of traffic) or on track. Also next summer I will need new rotors for $4500 and about $500 in other maintenance on the C63 not included in the $1400 maintenance plan I bought! Between all that and gas savings (getting 14.5 mpg) it will save me about $8000 in total driving costs over the next 2 years to get rid of it now. But I am not sure I will ever get over the power of the C63 and the engine sound, look forward to driving it everyday even after 3 years. Having 2 toddlers and trying to save for a house is the #1 goal right now though. Just trying to save as much as possible and loose as little driving pleasure as possible when downgrading from the C63. |

CTS-v is ugly, and no amount of horsepower would ever make that car 'buyable' in my opinion. The ISF has a nice engine and comfortable seats, but again, if you have two functioning eyes you'd take one look at the steering wheel and immediately dismiss this car.
C63 is the quintessential german muscle car: loud, torque-y, with MB refinement. But as you stated impractical for your life. So I guess thats out. 1-2 year old M3 is a very viable option, find a good specimen that was taken care of and you shouldn't have any issues. Esp if this is the car you originally wanted, unless you have an AWD requirement, this should be at the top of your list. In the interest of full disclosure, you should know that I drive a tuned 2011 S4 with some suspension / stability mods and this car is truly capable of anything. I love the slightly understated style that still has plenty of aggressiveness to it. This car moves, I run mid 12's all day. Quattro keeps me alive during the winter (not that a good set of winters on a rwd car wont) and lets me put the power down in almost any situation. 30mpg on long cruises and a very nice interior. Overall a great compromise between some of the more sporty cars in the bunch and some of the more techy. The 335i msport is also a very capable machine. Probably the most reasonably priced compared to the rest and if it has everything you're looking for, could very well be the right choice for you. I'm not the biggest fan of the looks of the new f30, but there is no denying its a great car that has plenty to offer. Ultimately, the best way to decide is to nail down a solid budget for yourself, and then go out there and get as much seat time as you can in all the cars before deciding. I think once you've had a chance to do that, the answer should come to you naturally. and remember, between the cars you're looking at, you really can't lose... ps. noticed you are located in nyc.. if you ever wanna take my S out for a spin just let me know. I love converting folks . Last edited by LS417; 07-03-2012 at 01:37 PM.. Reason: spelling |

I think the randomness makes sense, at least to me. When choosing a car without a set "list" of features you need or without a specific purpose in mind, we gravitate towards cars we like that are within reasonable dollars to one another.
