Gotta love the gearing!

Just watched this video of an F30 330D doing 0-155mph limited top speed. When the transmission changes up to 8th gear once it's settled on the limiter ... it's doing 3500rpm. At 155mph

Epic.

Also noticed that the ED display is showing what is presumably 14l/100km. That's 20mpg. At 155mpg. My MPS barely does that over an average tank

Thats great, I am going to borrow the 382i Luxury touring from BMW till my 330 M Sport arrives, I can compare them both now
I really can not believe how economical the 330D engine is, I test drove one last week and it returen 53MPG general driving
A 3 litre engine producing what this one does is fantastic, NO other manufacturer can get anyway near it.

It's very quick to change into second and even goes for third before 4500 rpm. Is this normal or is the traction control intervening?

That's outrageous! Makes me wonder what rpm it will do at a steady 80mph on the motorway ...

There appears to be a digital speedo display on the car in the video.
Is this a standard feature?
I have never seen it before on the3 or 5 series.

Well you can do the maths ... if it's 3500 rpm at an indicated 160mph then it's 1750 rpm at an indicated 80mph

I'm going but this 328i Touring I have on loan, it's running a bit higher in the rev range, I think my 335D M Sport was 1750 @ 80MPH same gearbox

No the F30 has a brand new gearbox. 8speed vs 6speed in E90 335D.

Petrol engined cars will rev higher than a low revving diesel.

Good point! Oh dear, that's bang up there with the most stupid questions ever asked - I'd had a couple of beers and it didn't occur to me to divided 85mph by 155mph. Bit worried about beer & IQ now.

So it looks like 8th gear at 85mph would be circa 1,900 rpm - no wonder this thing is so bloody ecumenical. Better still, that's smack bang in the sweet spot for torque, so we'll be whipping past anything that's dawdling ... :-)

Bollocks, I need that car now!
