New 435i - tire feathering and road noise
Hi guys,
I bought my 435i back in November, m-sport with the Bridgestone potenza s001s (18s, RFT, summer performance and staggered setup). After approx 4,000 miles (mainly freeway) the front tires have developed a 'whump whump whump' noise that's speed-dependent and very audible around 20-30 miles. Took it in to my BMW dealership who said there is feathering on the tires which, according to them, is not unusual given that they are quite soft. Does this sound normal to you? My car is usually driven in a straight line (freeway!) and I'm very careful with potholes (the really big ones anyway). Thanks in advance for your thoughts! |

This??
Could it be the fact that you've been running your summer tires in the cold? Summer tires are at a minimum a HUGE risk with the cold weather we've had. They tend to get really hard. They are designated as summer tires for a reason. Even all season tires stiffen up in this kind of weather. I have the same tires that you have, except for the fact that I have a designated winter set. I haven't had a lick of trouble with mine......

Well... I live in Southern Cali and bought my car 07/2013. I have the 328 M-sport (Staggered) with the Continental SSR RFT. I started hearing that sound as well and took it in to get inspected. Dealership said both front tires were feathered due to my agressive driving... after only 5700 miles...LOL
No resolution, basically said I can deal with it or get new tires. |
