Great tip, I'll try that with a hair dryer as it will be much quicker than compounding it to get it off, although parked my car near some large trees Saturday and its now covered in fine tree sap spray so whole car will need claying to get it off so we are then back to polishing and sealing it again anyway, deep joy !

So let me get this right - we have shampoos, conditioners, waxes, towels and now hairdryers for our cars...?
On topic: do you hairdry the area before cleaning the bird poop off or after?

Pissing on Bird Dung is also recommended. Present quite a problem if you have to piss on you roof!

I was quite impressed with this actually. Missus should have gone to get it cleaned today. Actually curious to see the state of the radiator now. Prefer bugs to bird poo though. Can always get bugs off with no marks. Colleague had bird poo on his windscreen, was trying to clean it off, ended up scratching his windscreen.

BMW clear is self healing. My F30 has it and my last 2010 E90 had it. Leave car in sun for several hours. This will help re-flow the clear to effectively make the spot disappear, though I would NOT recommend using a heatgun. They get HOT and can damage the paint finish. Stick with a blow dryer if you cannot find enough intense sun for a few hours. On the other hand, I've heard some in the paint industry say its the suns UV rays that activate the self heal. I guess it depends on which manufacturer's clear BMW used on your car.

Living by the coast does have its downsides. I reckon a seagull will let loose a good 500ml of guano in one squeeze! I was driving along a while back and I honestly thought someone had lobbed a stone onto my roof. Pulled over to find a massive seagull poo-strike that was drying rapidly in the sun. Used a jetwash to remove the offending mess but yes agree, rubbing is the worst possible thing.

Well, shave my legs and call me grandma! Three massive dollops. One on bonnet, one on roof and one on boot lid. And all in a row! I give up.

Just think of the poor seagulls take months of practice to get three dollops in a row.
Never mind the car opened the curtains the other morning and could hardly see out the window, must have been a passing albatross. |
