340 X-Drive 0-60 in 4.2?

Sorry if this is a re-post, Autobytel posted this today. Thoughts? (other than that I have too much time on my hands to watch Autobytel vids on youtube)

Nice!! No launch control used. So I'm guessing with it 4.0

I'll cause an uproar:

This is why AWD should be offered in M vehicles. Cars are getting so powerful they need more traction to get the power down.

There are so many variables when it comes to 0-60 times. A huge variable is traction and obviously all wheel drive helps tremendously. Temp is another important variable. Looks like it's about 28 degrees and the turbo loves that. An M with that temp and rear wheel drive only on summer performance tires would have a major traction issue and a relatively bad 0-60.

On top of everything everyone else has said the BMW published 0-60 for all their cars is usually fairly conservative so expect actual performance of the M's to exceed published specs as well.

They're measuring it based on the speedometer. It would take a full second to actually get to "real" 100...

They are counting how many seconds it gets to move the car from 0 to 100km/h using the dashboard speedometer as reference. So it took roughly 4.2~4.5 seconds to reach the "100km/h" mark on the speedometer.

We all know the speedometer is inaccurate. So I wager that the delta in time (from specs to the video results) is due to the fact that the car never reached 100km/h, and it would take it longer to reach 100.

I know it's not a B58 but I can't resist posting my 0-60 record:

Sorta agree. A full second? I don't agree. I'm not sure how wrong you think the speedometer is.

Using Road and Track times for the 335i (in their article where they pit it against the Lexus, Infiniti, and Cadillac): from 60 MPH, adding 1 second gets you to about 67 MPH. The speedometer is not off by that much.

And that is with the 335i with 20 less HP than the 340i.

I don't know about the 340, but my 435i is off by 1.5 MPH (optimistic) at 60 MPH. I say 1.5 MPH and not 2 MPH because when I am driving at 60 MPH (according to the speedo) my GPS goes back and forth from 61 and 62 MPH. At 90 MPH my speedo if off by a full 2 MPH. While I'd rather have a speedo that was 100% accurate, this is much better than my e92 that was nearly 3 MPH off at 60 MPH and a whopping 5 MPH (optimistic) off at 90.

Motortrend clocked a 4.4 0-60 on a 335i xDrive with PPK, so 4.2 from a B58 isn't completely outlandish. I'd say it's definitely mid to low fours.

I tried LC with traction control fully off recently. The grip off the line kicks you in the face, holy moly.

Almost makes me want to change my 340i order to a 340xi order. But I dont want the xi suspension, squared tires or another diff to service.

If you're only worried about handling, the adaptive dampers feel about the same on both (I really tried to feel the difference and couldn't). Also, you can get non-squared tires with either M-Sport or Track handling. That's what I ended up going with... 2 weeks to go

You also have the $0 option of 18" 397 wheels with staggered tires with NO track or M-Sport, at least on the 340i.

I am ordering the M Adaptive Suspension. I have a 335d now and the one thing I have noticed is a lack of traction with all the available torque. I know from BMW's numbers the xi is .2 0-60 faster, and if the adaptive suspension cures the xi's softness, then maybe thats the way to go. It'll cost me $2,000 extra, but with ED its only $1800. Decisions, decisions.

It does appear you can select 400m with all season or mixed run flats. I assume that "mixed run flats" mean a staggered setup?

Great, thats what I thought. UGH, yeah I think with the video above that the x-drive is what I'll switch my order to. I just wish we had a car locally that was x-drive with m adaptive so I could drive it in Sport mode.
