Carpet Damage from Pool Chlorine

Hey guys, I bought a house recently and went to the pool store to refill my chemicals. I guess one of the lids were open on a bottle of pool chlorine and it got on the carpet in the trunk. I didn't notice it and came back out a few days later and noticed about 3 inch circle where the chlorine was ate away all the trunk carpet!!! So now it's just down to the hard backing of the carpet liner.

Any thoughts on what to do about this? I have to turn in my lease next year and don't want to be hit with damage charges.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Chlorine damage to carpet is pretty much impossible to fix even if it's just bleaching out of the color, let alone damage to the pile. You'll probably have to replace the carpet.

I would try and contact anyone who does industrial or marine upholstery in your area. If those quote a price too high or you don't have any nearby, you can always just contact any automotive or regular upholsterer. They may be able to fit in a matching piece and sew it in such a way that the repair is nearly invisible.

Are you too cheap to pay $247.83 to Dealer for part 51477289379 or less than $200 online to get a new piece?

You'll be paying it now or later.

If you intend to haul Chlorine, might as well wait until turn in.

id recommend a rubbermaid container to transport that stuff in. make sure they put it in a bag and then id set it in a rubbermaid in the trunk.

as for your existing carpet, there is no fixing it. you need a new trunk floor. or you could just buy the bmw trunk mat to cover it up.
