Shipping time from completion of production

So I checked with BMW, and production of my car should be completed on June 25th (3 days) Does anyone know approximately how long it should take for the car to arrive from Germany to the dealership after production has been completed?

Assuming Irvine, California, it's pretty much 6 weeks minimum - it comes into Port Hueneme in Oxnard via Panama Canal.

Wow...I put the order in on this car on April 17th....so 6 weeks from June 25th would mean like a 15 week wait time compared to the 6-8 weeks the dealer told me originally

Check the timelines in the Order forum - looks like you'll be on the boat leaving Bimmerhaven on the 5th of July arriving 5th of August at Port Hueneme. There is one that leaves on the 27th of June but I seriously doubt you'll make that boat.

My car took 7 weeks from the date it was ordered to when it arrived at the dealer in LA.
Only about 2 weeks of that time was the build. It also came from the factory in Germany. I think the dealer can place different priority levels on cars. Mine was set as a P1 - fastest.

Your dealer really told you that you would get your car (living in Cali) in 6-8 weeks after placing your order? Even if the planets lined up perfectly for you that would never happen. Time to find a new, more honest, dealer.. Good luck with that.

I was told mine was a little slower due to it being an F36...."little slower" was apparently an understatment.

Love the mistake - intentional or not. (It's Bremerhaven.)

I'm in a similar situation, order placed on 26th April, production will be completed by 29th June with Delivery est July 20th.

Dealer told me 8- 10 weeks initially, I'm guessing 4GC's are taking longer to go through the full process??

Not too helpful but it'll give you an idea... I ordered my 328i 18 May went into production 2nd week of June and I just got the call that my car is at the dealership IN GERMANY where I live currently. It took them 5 days to truck it from Munich to my dealer 5 hours away. Total time order to delivery about 5 weeks... The wait sucks! :

I'm not sure why that makes sense for a custom order. I can see that for inventory destined models which would be assigned a lesser priority given the relative sales performance vs its most similar cousins.

Check this forum landing page, near the top. There's a great post on following your car on the boat. Once you have the VIN, plug it into the WWL website to identify the ship it's on and then you can see the delivery date to your port. The VIN won't be in the WWL site until they load the vehicle. Once the BMW website (BWM Owners, where you can track your car) says it's done and ready to ship, the WWL website will show you the schedule of ships leaving Bimmer Heaven. You can probably figure out which ship your car will be on given the date BMW says it was done and what the ship departure dates are. It's a neat thing tracking your car to delivery.....but then it eats at you how long it takes. If you have no port installed options, the car should be at your dealer within a few days of hitting the dock.

It's a great thread! Used this method for all my cars. It's cool to track but I couldn't stand how slow the ship moves!!!

I would never want to follow a car from ordering date to delivery date: It took mine 4 1/2 months to be delivered.

I freak out tracking a package containing a cd ordered within Canada when it takes more than 2 days (from Mississauga to Montreal)... I would be desperately searching fo air tracking a car online.

My car was ordered April 30. Not sure when it went into production, but it was built by May 21, on a boat by May 29, and arrived at Port Hueneme last Friday, June 19. I hope it's here in Colorado by Friday, Monday at the latest. That's 8 weeks or a smidge more.

The actual build takes less than a week, but shipping to Cali takes at least three weeks. Add time from order to build, from build to the port, waiting for a ship, and at least a few days in customs, 6 weeks seems like a bare minimum and 8 weeks is pretty good to the west coast. I can easily see it taking longer if there are any snags.

FWIW, my CA let me know what ship the car was on and it was pretty cool tracking it across the Atlantic and through the Panama Canal. I even got some webcam snaps of the ship going through the locks!

I believe all confirmed customer orders are set to Priority 1 and I don't think this has anything to do with how long it takes to transport your car from Germany to the US.

how do you find this info out? First time BMW owner here, I've been calling every day to see the status on my car haha. They told me today it has been at the port waiting assignment for a ship for two days.

I have, unfortunately there isn't much information on schedules for boats going to the west coast...at least from what I've seen.
