Kick to open trunk - Pops open but doesnt open fully?

UPDATE:

So I had my rear spoiler installed 2 days ago. They fixed my smart opener at the same time (sensor was bad).

Turns out, when you install a spoiler, the spring needs to go back one "click".

All is well now!

---

So I have a question regarding the kick to open the trunk.

I noticed on mine essentially what happens is this:

I kick under the trunk, the trunk pops open, but does not "lift up" and open fully.

When I press the open trunk button on the handle or my FOB, the trunk pops open AND goes all the way up, ready to stuff the trunk with groceries etc.

Wish the kick to open would act the same because esssentially now, even though the trunk is 'popped open', I still need to use a handle to open it fully.

How does yours behave?

I've had two F30's and a F10 and all three open fully with a kick.

I had the same thing on my '16 f32. When I brought in, the receipt after they fixed it said that the struts were "improperly installed at the factory". Now it pops fully open and is totally hands free.

Either a strut or actuator problem I'm guessing. From day one, mine would open either way (manually or with the comfort access), but wouldn't fully close without me actually pushing on it if I tried to close it with the comfort access. Had to order an actuator from Germany, fixed under warranty.

I was mopping my garage floor the other day and mopped underneath my 335's bumper - and the trunk popped open! Apparently the sensor is pretty sensitive!

It was probably giving you a hint to clean the trunk as well

Not necessary at all - every time I transport a body in there, I go over it very carefully with bleach and disinfectant, and check it with UV. Can't be too thorough, y'know.

instead of bleach, try vinegar. Works the same except all the chemicals plus it is also a disinfectant. Two birds with one rock

Actually, I did that, and my trunk smelled like a pickle barrel. From outside, even! And I dare not fold the rear seats down. I find if I use a 50-50 solution of bleach and water, the smell goes away quickly, and I follow that up with a little Lysol, primarily to give it a more pleasant aroma. I'm thinking seriously about a full-trunk liner from WeatherTech, which would be easier to maintain.

Seriously...how many times have I had my hands full coming out of Wal-Mart with a full supply of ammo and Hoppe's No. 9 and tried to open the trunk with my foot or feet, to where bystanders thought I was doing some sort of Russian dance, with no results? I shove a mop under there once - ONE TIME - and the thing flies open like pop-goes-the-weasel!!! Go figure!

I bought a CPO '13 a couple months ago and the trunk would only open all the way after opening and closing the trunk a couple times. I figured the spring inside the trunk were a bit stretched. So I pulled back the liner in the trunk and adjusted the spring to a tension setting of 3. Now it pops open every single time whether I use my key fob or my foot. You can search on this forum for how to adjust that spring.

Yeah what I find strange is that by remote / manual handle button press, it pops open fully.

When I do the kick, it only pops open... Kind of defeats the purpose. I'll have a look at the coding see if theres anything out of the ordinary.

It sounds more like a strut/spring issue. But I agree it's odd that the kick doesn't work, but the key fob does.

Both should just be releasing the actuator, and then it's either struts or springs that pop the trunk open.

Ok, I can now confirm...

It just 'pops' on both, kick and manual release.

Looks like strut or spring, will have a look asap.

I may need to try this but I don't see any DIY for it when I search the board.

If it's struts, they do get weak (lose pressure?) over time. Usually a simple DIY as they typically snap on with ball/socket ends.

That is some good info. I wouldn't have initially thought that, but it makes perfect sense!

I found this on the internet. Go to page 23 and page 25 for a picture of what the springs look like. If you pull back the trunk lining on the left and right side of your car you will see the springs.
