That's essentially what modifying the OEM muffler does right?
Yep I'd give that a try, it's essentially going to quiet it down but how much is the real question.

I can't stress enough how much I love my muffler mod and especially with a catted down pipe! It sounds exactly like an M2 with OEM muffler and downpipe in this vid:

I guarantee you'll love the sound with a down pipe. Here's what it sounds like...

The interior tubes are stainless steel, but the actual canister is aluminum I believe. I remember sticking a magnet and it fell right off.

Whatever the exhaust shop used I'm not sure, I didn't stay to watch. You can weld aluminum for sure it just takes a lot of time and a lot of skill.

ill drop by the loaclexhaust shop here (about 5km) and check with them, exhaust mod vs customexhaust and check pricing. feels like it's better to leave to people who really have the welding skills

IT will be very inexpensive to do a muffler delete and add some nice tips. Maybe $200. But you're going to get a good amount of drone from it. It does sound fantastic though if that's your type of thing.

Hello,

First of all, thanks for all the good information!

I would like to make this change on my car.
I have two questions :

- Are there holes underneath too (see picture)? Should they also be closed?

- Should the holes in chamber 3 be closed?

Good night

Quentin

Yes there are holes on the bottom as well. To achieve maximum sound weld all the holes shut. Some members have done it where they only weld the top holes they didn't want as loud of a sound.

There only a handful of us with the mod . It's about 80% as loud as a muffler delete. Cut off the resonator and almost the same sound minus all the drone.

I ditched the MPE in favor of this hence the entire thread I started.

Interesting, I happen to have a spare 335 muffler.. I'm considering this as well, or willing to sell my muffler to someone else that wants to take a shot at this mod.

The vids sound really good..

After reading this thread, I've decided to do the same on my M235i. Got it booked in for tomorrow. The car feels so boring to drive because it's so quiet (+numb steering), I'm praying this wakes up the little beast. Will post videos when it's done.

Yes you can go to any shop. Just tell them to open it up and weld all the holes shut.
