Anyone consider wrapping their interior?
I did a search and couldn't find anything on an interior wrap. Has anyone tinkered with this? The interior is so easy to disassemble, I imagine others doing something other than just swapping out.
I like the M Performance carbon/alcantara (minus the alcantara) but couldn't bring myself to pay $1K for a few pieces of mostly plastic. I bought a carbon fiber (look) vinyl wrap roll just to try to see what it would look like wrapped. To my surprise the vinyl was actually of quality and the outcome was far beyond my expectations. I know, it sounds pretty rice but it actually fits in the interior and gives it more of a luxury feel than the base matte silver or whatever it's called. I only wrapped the dash trim pieces and next to the shifter. The silver on the sides don't look bad after the wrap. Total damage = $14. A local wrap shop wanted to charge me $300 for a CF (look) interior wrap, which is average to high considering the task. Take a look (at grainy iPhone photos) and tell me your impressions. |

I actually did the same thing recently, I used 3M Scotchprint CF Black, cost me about $50 including shipping for a 24x60 roll which was enough for the whole interior and left me a little left over in case I want to redo any parts or do other parts(reflectors, etc.)
I too had the Aluminum Hex but wanted to do something a little different with the interior look without spending about $1000+ for the shift knob, shifter base plate, and the M Performance Interior. I also liked the blue trim, and didn't want that to be the CF part. The hardest parts for me were trimming around the blue trim on the center piece, as well as the shift knob cover just because of the angles. Additionally, any one who does the shifter base plate, to remove it, it is held on by metal clip rings attached to plastic "poles", be very careful when trying to remove it! Pics of mine are below, just went and took these so I didn't get to clean the car up well beforehand. You can see the contrast different when the light hits it, and it has a nicer texture to it. |

Big reason why I didn't do a DIY is because there are other DIYs that encompass this. ie. interior swap DIY, and kidney grill wrap DIY

You guys think you can do all interior trim parts using the 12 x 60" sheet? I only plan on doing the door handles, dash trims, and the idrive trim. not the shifter.
I am also thinking about the 3m 1080 Anthracite CF wrap instead of black. I might enjoy the contrast a little better and I was hoping it would match the color of the OEM dry CF that is available for our cars. Last edited by n55x3; 05-21-2014 at 09:53 AM.. |

Wow, I definitely thought about this, but it looked like the door handles would turn out like crap... apparently that isn't the case! Looks great guys, looks like my weekend just got a lot busier.

Just got all my samples from 3M, crazy fast shipping by the way, got them in less than 48 hours, all for free. Anyway, after comparing all the various 1080 samples against the di-noc sample sheets I think I am going to go with Di-noc CA-421. I just like the texture a bit better than the glossier 1080 CF lineup. They all look really nice though. I guess the beauty of this mod is you can replace with minimal effort and cost after a short while if my choice does not work out.
On a side note, out of the probably 80 sample sheets of 1080 3M sent they have some super cool colors and textures. Will be fun figuring out what non car items we can wrap. They have some metallic colors that are super nice and have great depth. Pretty amazing for a sticker. |

You can find plenty of wrap tutorials on youtube Just remember, patience is key. It's easy to mess up if you are rushed. |
