So the co2 figure is higher than that of the 330d?

No. The F31 330d Xdrive is given as 142 and RWD is 135. The F31 320Xdrive is 133 compared to 123 for the RWD.

The auto in the 325d is likely to be 133.

330d X Drive at 5.4 secs 0-60 means a 2 wheel drive only 335/340d would have to beat this by a margin ........ and then that encroaches on 335i and M3 territory.

0-60 in 5.4, very decent economy, low tax and 4 wheel drive sounds a great combination. Just need to wait for them to be 18 months old approx to be a more sensible mid £20k.

Just updating my views on the fuel economy. My car was in for some work and I was given a 116i manual. I had to take my dad to Heathrow in the 1 series, roads were snowy so speed was low and it only returned 41.8mpg for the return trip (130 miles). Trust me I drove it very carefully and trip was reset on the move after a warm up. My 330D would have done 50+mpg for the same trip. Amazing comparison for me, which makes me extra happy I chose a 330D

330d - 60mpg on motorway at 70-ish

I drove from Bristol to Tunbridge Wells and back today on business. Left at 5:30am, but still hit nasty traffic round bottom half of the M25. I drove like an old woman eco-pro and didn't go much over 70 and got an indicated 62mpg on the gauge for about 60 miles, but it fell over time (and with heavier traffic) to a 59.8 after 130 miles.

This seems very sustainable, as long as you don't get too bored of going no faster than 70 and you're willing to drop your speed to 60mph on long up-hill sections of motorway. In traffic, there is no pain at all in doing this, though it takes commitment on a clear road ... :-) My mpg fell away to 58.4 by the time I reached TBW, as I'd spent 40 minutes in stop-start traffic. That included slow traffic driving into TBW.

Driving home, there was a heavy headwind on the M4 and I couldn't get the MPG much above 58. I got bored of trying in the last 20 miles and had a bit of fun with the car in Sport, with the 'box' set to sport as well. I had 57mpg on the clock by the time I turned into my street, over a 310 mile round trip.

Quite impressed with that, although I can't see myself having the patience to waft around at 70 all the time.

I doubt it - had to drive mine like a granny in a very tight corset to get those figures. Think I'm kidding myself - this stuff is the province of the 320d drivers ...

No seriously, mine wouldn't reach 60mpg at 70 mph even on a dead level road.

To achieve my best figure (57mpg) I had to cruise at 50-60mph, no stops/starts other than the start and end, all motorway.

My mpg is getting worse and worse

Even with Eco Pro and driving like a granny I don't think I could achieve those figures and that's in a 320d. Be happy with your figures guys

Nisfan, I think it's worth getting that checked out.

If you get yourself on a flat stretch of motorway and reset your rolling average mpg readout, you really should get high 50s as a minimum. If I do that, I get around 62-66mpg indicated at a steady 70mph - no sweat. This drops quickly at the first hint of a climb, but my average over 130-odd miles was easy to hold at circa 60mpg and was less of a pain than it might have been, given the general pace of traffic being around 70mph.

F30am, I'm right with you re driving the car for minimum economy - it's such a hoot in sport mode and I bought mine for the joy of proper grunt and sensible (rather than amazing) economy. My problem is, I have a crappy daily commute of 4.5 miles each way, in which the temp gauge barely comes off the bottom stop and I get a sad rolling average of just 27mpg. So I wanted to see what my car could do on a long run the other day. Bored of that now - back to the fun.

On the other side of things, I drove 240 miles on a mix of fast A roads and motorway (80% motorway) a few weeks ago and had the car in sport mode all the way at 85 to 90mph. I focused on fun rather than economy, with plenty of full-throttle, full-grin blasts. I got bang on 47mpg door to door.

To me, that's much more impressive than 60mpg at 70mpg and crawling up hills. Real-world economy in real-world driving.

I gather these 'cruising' mpg comparison comments are just OBC readings.

There can be quite a bit or error if taken from the OBC, unless you are checking accuracy by 'brim to brim' calcs. Say there is a +/- error of up to 10% (that is possible against actual consumption) could be a 10mpg difference in OBC figures between two cars, even if all other things were equal at around 70mph. Most unlikely the other factors are equal either.

Good point. Yes, my figs are straight from OBC and I agree: a reasonable +/- 5% accuracy of OBC on a given car could easily allow total 10% discrepancy between two cars.

I'm too lazy to do the brim to brim thing. Think overall mpg is still pretty good though.

Nisfan, maybe my car has taken too many happy pills and yours is just plain pragmatic.

That sounds about the same as mine. I reset it today on the motorway and over 20 miles @ 64mph on the cruise control it only did 54mpg and soon fell when I came off the motorway. Maybe it will improve with more miles on the clock.

I just drive mine. No care for MPG etc but I checked this morning after just going over 1000 miles now and it showed 42.4...I drive in normal mode on the motorway and sport mode anywhere else...

I find the OBC to be optimistic. By the time I get to a fill up it is usually reporting around the 54.5mpg overall whereas in reality it's more like 51.5. Not a huge difference but still about 6%.

What sort of miles to a tank do you get?

Mine needs a refill between 500-550 miles, and usually takes between 52 and 56 litres. Tank to tank that comes in around 44mpg. My OBC says 45mpg so reasonably accurate.

The 318D I borrowed for a few weeks would do over 600 to the tank, my C220CDi averaged around 720 miles to the tank, but it did take 62 litres (52.7mpg)

My driving is typically longer distance stuff 60-100 miles

I usually fill up when the car has done 500 miles and the range is usually still showing over 100 miles, something inside me says not to trust it though. If I believe it I reckon it would push to about 625-650 which sounds about right but knowing my luck it would be on the motorway in between junctions when it decided to run out.

Most of my drives are shorter stuff around 20 miles so by the time the engine is warm I'm pretty much there. It is motorway for the main part and I use eco-pro when I'm just cruising along with the occasional burst of sport when needed. I have been using the super diesel which may not be doing anything performance wise but may just help a bit

625-650 sounds about right.....is the type of range I was achieving in the 318D, although the 318 doesn't encourage much spirited driving, but feels 320 like under 2,200rpm.

This is the first car where I can truely trust the range left. It is amazingly accurate. Most of my other cars predicted the range until around 50 miles then just resorted to a 'fill-up' graphic. I love the way the F30 bongs at 50/30/20 miles etc. Not gone lower yet.
