I hear this is easier said than done. Especially with the typical items found inside a car's cabin.

Happy to be corrected though, for my anxiety sake.

You have to wait for the cabin to completely fill with water, for the pressure difference to neutralise.

This is what pointed ends of the metal legs of the head restraints are for, hit the windows hard and in the corner and they will put through.

That would be a last resort effort tbh.

For the sake of £5 or less it's better to have one of these in the glove box or drivers side storage compartment (if you have the extended storage option)

Got the 1st estimate from the dealer which has now been sent on it insurers, total £4.3k which includes oilflush through, replace all oils and filters, steering rack and starter motor replacement. After this work the engine will be run to assess any further damage.

Ouch, do you know if your insurers are going to play ball yet?

Awful luck mate. Although at least they can't claim "beyond economic repair".

And sounds like you were on an open public road - just can't see how they could refuse to pay out.

I hope they haven’t noticed you’ve got one of the faulty “knocking” steering racks & they're replacing it & chucking it on the insurance bill

Sorry to hear that.

However, are they saying the damage is a result of water entering the engine via the air intake? I do find that surprising if the flood water didn't even get to the bottom of the doors; as per an earlier post, I though the air intake on the F31 was mounted behind the grille and hence the flood water you described shouldn't have got anywhere near it?

So they haven't even taken the spark plugs out and air filter to check the engine?! Over 4 grand for that lot is simply fraud in my opinion. Most of that stuff will be just fine, it's subject to water all the time being the lowest components. Crazy, no wonder our premiums are ridiculous

Totally agree. Cashing-in on an insurance claim.

New steering rack and starter motor because the car went through a puddle ?

Oil flush-through and new seals yet the engine hasn't been checked to see whether it's been structurally compromised ?

What good is new oil going to do if the valves are bent, con rods are bent, block is cracked, etc ?

What a joke.

OP, you should call them out on this.

Totally agree, their course of actions sound totally bizarre! The spark plugs need to be removed ASAP and the engine cranked to ascertain if there’s water in the cylinders (if there’s currently water in there it will soon corrode the cylinders!), so their delaying could actually be what kills the engine.

they did take the spark plugs out and checked cylinders at the beginning.
After a week of "discussion" dealer and insurance agreed to just do the oil work and then see how the engine behaved. Dealer conformed on Friday that oil work done and compression checked with the result that insurance have agreed to a full repair, expect more news next Friday.
Thanks for the advise

The old one? New Defender is 90cm which is a little below the door handles on that car. Bonkers! Who actually wades as you never quite know without measuring the whole path how deep but is.

The new Defender is at the Traf this week coming up. I'll be taking a peek.
