Question Idrive/Cluster Clock not keeping time

Hello Everyone,

New to the forum. Recently bought a new to me F32 435i. Loving the car but it has one (hopefully) small problem with the clock. Sorry this will probably end up long winded but basically it won't keep time. I can go into settings update the time to the correct time using the automatic option or manually but it won't change time afterwards. For example - if i update the time at 12:00 midday it will show 12:00 on the iDrive and also the cluster but it wont change from that. Soon as I go into update it again it'll update to the correct time but same problem again it remains at it. I took it to my local BMW dealer and they want to charge 1.5 hours labour hours which is £156 to do a programming session and if it takes longer than the time the price will go up further! They did check versions and I have the most up to date version. Any help from anyone or ideas to try please let me know. Even if you know someone in the Aberdeen area that could have a look at a better price it would be hugely appreciated.

Jason

Sounds like a coding issue usually when the cluster or head unit has been changed. Grab someone with Bimmercode and try Code HU_NBT => KOMBI_CIC = kombi_high.

It is a known, but uncommon, bug. If you search these forums there was a thread on it a while back. If I recall correctly - and I may not be - the solution was a new NBT unit, as ridiculous as that sounds. It wasn't coding.

EDIT - I didn't recall correctly - you'll be pleased to hear the fix is much cheaper. Free in fact if you have a 13mm spanner...

Yes I’ve read somewhere before that disconnecting the battery for 45 minutes seems to fix this issue if you are unlucky enough to have it.

Thanks everyone. I honestly thought i'd searched every possible combination of keywords and that thread never appeared. Will try disconnecting the battery tomorrow. If it doesnt work how difficult is coding using bimmercode? I have the Vgate OBD connector and the app downloaded but I only planned for doing basic coding. Or worst case scenario how much does a new NBT unit?

Thanks again for the help

Talking

Just an update on this. Removed the battery negative terminal today and left for 45 minutes and refitted. Complete success, clock now keeps time perfectly

Cheers for the help and can't tell you how glad I am that it was an easy fix.

Side note:
To anyone who gets this problem and tries this solution don't be an idiot like me and close the boot while the terminal is off. Absolute tool for that moment of madness!!!
