How do you know if your Dealer wipes the remap?
This is probably a stupid question but here goes...
Apart from the difference when you put your foot down is there any other way to know if the main dealer has done a software rest and wiped the remap off the car? I’ve just collected my car from a service and I am not sure if they have done it or not. |

You would think so but this happened to me the last time my car was in the main dealer and as I hadn’t driven the car in a few weeks it’s just felt a bit slower. When I got the map re installed it then felt much quicker.

You should be able to feel the difference very easily, assuming the remap significantly increased power & torque.
I don't take the chance now. Every time I take my car to the dealer for servicing I specifically instruct them not to remap or software or update it, and leave two printed A4 sheets (large font, caps, red text) in the car itself : DO NOT REMAP OR SOFTWARE UPDATE THIS CAR - on the passenger seat DO NOT WASH THIS CAR - on the dashboard so it's visible from outside. If they want to know why I just tell them that there's coding on the car that I don't want to lose, and that the last time they update the ECU my mpg went down by 10% presumably as an 'under the radar' diesel-gate fix'. That normally gets them looking down at the desk rather awkwardly. It's my. not theirs or BMWs, and my decision what does or does not happen while it's being serviced.

Sometimes how it feels can be down to how the power is delivered or the torque curve especially low down. It should feel noticeably faster after a remap if the power increase is significant though, and likewise feel slower if the remap is removed.
I thought my car felt a little slower earlier this year than it had done after the remap last year, but I’d timed it 30-80 after the remap (private road of course), so repeated the test again in the same place and the performance was exactly the same so I was just imagining it felt slower or just gotten used to it I guess. |
