Lease End & Tires
I have to turn my car in at the end of the lease in 4 months. I am pretty certain I will need to replace two tires in order to be "within spec" of the lease-end criteria (two tires were replaced a year ago after one got a nail in it).
Question - am I better off buying the tires now or should I keep driving on the existing tires and pay BMWFS for wear and tear when I turn it in? I paid around $600 for the two tires last year from the dealer. Someone told me it might be cheaper for me to pay end of lease W&T vs. dropping $600 now on tires. On the other hand, at least I'd get some personal use out of the new tires if I did it early. |

In my experience at turn in, whether it is a new tire, a used tire, the same tire that came on the car 3 yrs ago that you put into storage doesn't matter. You can get some GREAT deals on RFT tires on these forums from people taking the RFT off their car (sometimes it is right after delivery) |

Are you leasing again through your dealer? They may look the other way....

If your dealer is buying the car at lease end, you dont need to worry about anything. Find out...
If not, just buy some used oem tires with 6/32 tread on them. probably will be 130 a tire.

I'm not likely to lease another BMW when this one is up, so I will definitely look into finding some used OEM tires.

doesnt matter if you lease another one or not. if the dealer buys the car, they pay it off to bmwfs, and they own the car. The car does not go back to bmwfs where they can ding you for tires and dents...

What's the expectation (requirement) at end of lease for tires? Is there a minimum wear figure?
How about the specific tire model? Does it have to be the same tire it came new with? |

Go ask for a pre-lease end inspection. They will tell you exactly how much all damage if any plus tires will cost you. This is also a great time to look at a new one. Dealers typically have the ability to get you out early as well.

When you replaced your tires before, was the nail in the tread or sidewall? If tread, you should have just had it repaired for ~$25 instead of replacing both tires for $600. I've had several tires repaired (RFT and non-RFT), and never had a problem with any of them. Something to keep in mind next time (BMW dealers will try to convince you to get new tires; go to an independent tire shop for the repair).
For lease return, just buy some used RFT tires with 6/32 tread or so. |

I will be swapping tires in a couple months to go with all seasons. I would try to find someone else doing what I am.
I would offer to sell you mine but shipping may be more than what you can find a set there and buy them for.

I swap out my summer tires for a Tire Rack square winter set-up in November and put the BMW summer set on in April. In 4 leases, at most I've had to pay for 2 tires (dealer cost). But I like the idea of buying on Ebay......
