I took some videos and photos of these LCD instrument gauges in action at the 7 Series LCI launch a few months ago:

Looks great! I have emailed my dealer to see if it is available as an option on the F30. If it is will consider adding it to my order

Even more important, you think it would be possible to retrofit if this in fact would come on the LCI?

That's just the full black panel display for the 7 series. Not an option for the 3 series and won't be for a while, I guess. Don't hold your breath for getting it on the LCI models - wait for the next whole revision at least. We only get a tiny LCD panel embedded at the bottom of the right hand instrument cluster and they still dare to call it "black panel display" it's good - better than analog stuff and lights but nowhere near as cool as the full-on 7 series variant

Comfort+? Is that 'more comfortable' or 'sporty comfortable'?

updated Nav will be in all cars by end next year. If you live outside the US its pretty much available now in the F30's.. Next step beyond new Nav is the iTouch iDrive controller which will allow BMW an easier way for customers to type and use a cursor in iDrive (hopefully). It never ends!

This LCD dash panel will be something that slowly evolves through the product line. My guess is not anytime soon. Upper models need some level of exclusivity.

The E89 Z4, and the the E71 (X6) will have a MY2014 with no new Nav. The E70 X5 could move to the F15 chassis for MY2014, but that seems to be pushing it. We haven't seen anything close to a FEP F15 vehicle, which would be expected if they're really going to roll them out in 7-8 months.

The problem with this cluster is that, for some markets, it cannot be specced with HUD. If the push comes to the shove HUD takes priority over this.
Plus, I cannot imagine what'll happen if sth goes wrong suddenly & the whole panel goes black (excuse the pun). For me 6WA looks more classic & stylish than this.

Even in the standard cars (panels), it's all computer controlled. So I think the chances of total failure are the same either way.

I think the digital gauges look great but I still prefer analog gauges, just my preference. All the choices on the lcd seem overly complicated IMO.

If the whole panel suddenly goes black you'll drive your car the same way you always do, using logic and common sense.

I had a Taurus with no functioning speedometer or tach, a Corvette with no functioning fuel gauge, never spun out of control because of it.

A gauge cluster is a useful but not essential piece of a car.

Also, I wouldn't expect this to trickle into the 3 until the next generation. Large custom high res automotive displays are not cheap. Theres quite a bit of cost delta between that 7 and your 328. The 3 series will get it the same time it gets a $50k starting price.

Yes, but the electronics are more complicated than conventional panels. JLR have had problems with theirs shutting down or rebooting randomly on some cars.

In a sane world it is, but the world insane & logic & common sense will not tell u exactly how fast u're going. The result is penalty points & fines for speeding.

My point is, if the dash board breaks, you are going to drive it until you can get it repaired. The car will not spiral out of control because your speedometer is no longer working.

A large display isn't any more unreliable than the small display that most of the F30's already have.

My point exactly, that is why I prefer the analog gauges... It won't black out or reboot randomly, haha.

Well, I didn't say the car will spiral out of control but ur wallet & licence points will, cos u don't know whether u're speeding or not. It is not a mere inconvenience.
If the small LCD fails on current cars u still have the speedo & tach.
