JB+...the truth...dyno numbers
Hi all,
In my efforts to mildly tune my 2014 328i M Sport, I've purchased a JB+. I installed it about a month ago and have spent many hours appreciating the perceived difference. As much as butt dynos matter subjectively, I am a man of science and very curious to understand the exact difference that the JB+ is making. I've contacted a local shop with a high-quality dyno and have scheduled a before/after series of runs. The before is scheduled for next Friday and we will average the outputs across 3 runs. The JB+ will be removed a week prior to the first test to ensure that the DME has had sufficient time to return to stock parameters in the interest of getting as true a baseline as possible. The second dyno run is scheduled a week later and the JB+ will be installed right after the first session to allow a further week of acclimation for the DME to take advantage of all the JB+ has to offer. For those of you who are wondering, I will set the JB+ to max to give it the greatest chance to give a good showing. I will be sharing both sets of data with this group and am excited to see the difference I feel represented in graphs that I can share with everyone. A shout out to Burger Motorsports for their awesome entry-level tuner. If you've ever wanted to how much horsepower and torque $200 buys you...stay tuned. Can't wait to see your results! My boost gauge has gone up 3-4PSI since plugging mine in, so I know it's doing something.
both runs in Sport + and cracked to the left? GL! |

Excited to see your results! I ran Dinan sport, a very similar unit, for nearly a year and always wondered how much HP/TQ it really made.

Be sure to record the conditions on both days. As a man of science, I’m sure you’ve already planned on that.

Just for reference (pun intended), these are the output numbers that BMW has documented in their own reference manual on the N26 engine.
As always, these numbers are measured at the crankshaft and assuming a 15.9% drivetrain loss (https://x-engineer.org/automotive-en...es-efficiency/), the wheel figures are estimated to be approximately 201.84 HP and 216.98 lb-ft. of torque at the rear wheels...we shall see if the N26 truly is underrated or not soon enough. |

BunkerJ Thanks for the threads. Seems like they all tested stock N20 motors and all seem to confirm that BMW's figures are a tad conservative. Will be interesting to get a baseline dyno from an N26 and then another with JB+. So curious!

My only problems with this video are 1) He bases his review with only the immediate result after. You need to have it on the car for some miles before it makes smooth power and 2) he concludes it's "not worth it". 10 years ago to make 40hp/tq you were spending THOUSANDS. This thing is 200 bucks (I paid 120). Turbos have spoiled us.
