It's an open can of worms but be interesting now Ray's been on to see relative difference with ACS box.

That's very impressive. And affirms what is an open industry secret in that manufacturers such as BMW understate the actual power that most cars will have by anything up to 10%.

And who knows what your 335i is really kicking out too.
There was a video kicking around a couple of months ago with an 335i xdrive vs 335d xdrive and there was nothing in it.

I keep thinking I should get it dyno'd at some point now its got enough miles on to have properly loosened off. My gut feeling (and this just my bum dyno speaking from experience) is somewhere in the 315-320bhp and 310ish ft-lb range.

That shows stock engine producing stock power exactly - which I doubt.

The diagrams ACS publish are only meant to be representative of the increase you can expect. They don't publish actual dyno charts for legal reasons, but I have seen some, and you do get what it says on the tin

Why did I think a RR run was more that £50??

I've often thought about it but not looked for a local centre - turns out Surrey Rolling Road is 1.1miles from my house!!

Anyone care to join me?

Hmm, just checked it's only 35 miles from me..

A 330X drive and a 335X drive on the same day would reduce the variables!

@Ray335d what diesel were you running on when you did the rolling road? Was it premium diesel or standard?

I might be up for it, depending on dates of course!

Any chance of combing it with a bit of coding? I'd really like the Speed limit display activated!

I'd be happy to put my 330d on the rollers as I'm intrigued as to what it is producing stock. Presuming dates work I'm in 👍

It would be interesting if a 330d xDrive could be tested along with the 335d, running in the same mode / tyre pressures / gear / fuel etc to remove as many of the errors as possible. That should give the best comparison of the two engines.

In an ideal world the cars would have similar mileages as well, i.e. not one with 3k and one with 20k, but that might be harder to arrange.

Sounds like a plan.

If we can make the timing work for a few, even better.

I have 16.5K on the clock, being serviced this week so will have fresh oil

Lets look at some dates...

So I've got 335d tourer, with 15k miles and 6 months old.

I use V_power diesel every 4 or 5 tanks so it's pot luck what I will have then!

However, V-power diesel is not like V-Power petrol which has a higher Octane rating and hence more energy. The diesel cetane rating is more to do with how it burns as I understand it.. the result being a smoother, quieter combustion, rather than a performance gain. So, in other words it really shouldn't make a difference!

It will definitely be interesting to see results of this work.

Also never realised that the Speed Limit Sign could be coded, assume there is some reliance on other hardware.

You need something else that needs the camera, and presumably built in nav.
