I see AndDown above had the same problem as me....seems to be a pattern.

I did not watch them do it so i cannot take a photo of what was done. 1 51-31-7-258-187 Drip Moulding, Left 513141. They did also replace Left and Right Windshield Moldings according to the paperwork.

EJIB - it's the windshield moulding on either side of the windshield. I posted a picture of my right moulding on page 4 of this thread.

The Power of the Internet !

I would like to thank AndDown and all the others, i got my F30 a couple of days ago and on my first drive i heard the whistling sound at speeds higher then 70km +-, for a guy that hears everything, even the quietest PC fans can drive me crazy. anyway i found this thread and tried just pushing the windshield side trim into place and the problem vanished, no whistling sound anymore, very happy.

Didn't fancy the idea of taking my new car to the dealer, unfortunately they are not very professional here.

Thanks for everyone who shared.

Shay

UPDATE:

Originally, my dealer thought wind noise (described best as a "shushing" noise that starts at 40 MPH) was due to folded window seal. After replacing, the sound continued (and the window seal refolded). I decided to do some experimentation. I took masking tape and covered different gaps around the mirrors and windshield to try to isolate the offending area. When I taped over the gap between the windshield trim and the car frame, the noise stopped. I took the car to the dealer with the tape in place and demonstrated for them. It appears that the windshield trim was placed 2mm too far from the frame, which allowed air to flow between the trim and car frame causing a "shushing" sound. I'd noticed on my loaner that the trim should be flush against the car frame...so I knew I might be onto something. Got my car back and no more "shush"...now it's just a hush. I still have the side mirror whistle at 55 MPH plus, but not much I can do about that. At least city driving is more peaceful.

Thanks for the update. I'm going to be taking mine in in a week or so for the 15K oil change and need ammunition to get my wind noise addressed.

Could you post a picture of your new windshield trim? I think it's officially called drip molding.

Same problem with my 2012 328i: loud wind noise when doing > 50 mph.
NOT whistling, just copious amounts of wind noise, rather suitable for a $17k car. I drive a 2012 A4 in parallel and there is no wind noise.

But hey, this is the Ultimate Driving Machine, right? Not the Ultimate Luxury Machine. So be grateful you have a windshield in the first place
Or maybe there is a $6,500 optional package hidden in the ordering form that gives you the inimaginable luxury of not having tornados around your years.

Oh, how I love BMWs ...

See post #77 of this thread - I posted a picture of the offending windshield trim which sounds like a similar problem with bksting's.

Any updates on the mirror covers? I'm sick of driving with ear plugs.

I can't really see where the gap is on post #77.

Here's a picture on my driver side drip molding:

and a close up:

The question is: Do you still have this gap between the molding and the A-pillar, or is this gap normal even after they fixed it?

I'm taking my car in on Monday and want to make sure that I have enough evidence to get them to fit it once and for all.

Thanks!

to be honest, it didnt fix anything i still have excessive wind noise at higher speeds (70-80 mph). i never had the whistle, so maybe the covers fix that problem. the dealer just recommended i wait a little longer to see if BMW comes up with a better fix.

Sorry didn't make that clear about my picture - it was taken after the molding was replaced. Apparently the clips were not holding it down tight enough and the molding would lift slightly at highway speeds, causing a whistling sound. I don't know if the original had a larger gap - hope they can get yours replaced. My tech replaced the clips as well as the drip trim.

Hmm. I don't really have a whistling noise. Just a wind noise which makes me check the windows are closed EVERY SINGLE TIME! Lol

If I open my sunroof a crack tho I then get a momentous whistling from drivers side window

Both the wind and the whistle sound like they're around the B pillar area to the back portion of the drivers window

Same here. And we're not crazy. It's def more wind noise than in the competitor's cars.

Here's something you can do to find where the noise leaks through - without risking to kill yourself driving and moving through the cabin in the same time
Park the car somewhere silent, play a tune with lots of high frequencies (or pink noise will do), get outside the car, close the doors and ... start listening where the door meets the B pillar. Move your head up and down with your ear close to the car and listen where the music gets louder/clearer.

This is how I found where the biggest leak happens. It's true for both the front and back doors. Take a look at the attachment - see the red highlight. And please come up with a solution

The loudest interior noise of any car I own, is our 2012 328. (April build) Like someone said eariler, I keep checking to see if I left a window cracked open.

I have an April 2012 build 328i also and get lots of wind noise.

I'm still working with the service department on this. They have new windows seals and B-pillar covers on order. We'll see if that fixes it or not.

Don't forget to update this post.

Today I completely taped around the whole door - where the rubber comes into contact with the metal. It's much quieter, without a shadow of a doubt. So something is off: doors misaligned, door sealing is bad, I don't know.

If they can't fix it, I'm giving away the lease. I can put up with lots of things in a car, but excessive noise it's a big turn off for me.

I will , I just have not had any progress to report yet.

I have tried taping some things (drip molding on windshield, the top of the windshield, and along the upper part of the driver door glass), but no real reduction in noise.

I have not tried taping the door, but I may try that too. Did you tape all around the whole door edge, or just the window? What kind of tape did you use?

I have been in other peoples F30's and they are definitely much quieter than mine, so I *know* it's not normal.

I really just want the dealer to diagnose and fix it, but I seem to have to push them on this every step of the way.

I didn't think I'd be joining this club, but now I'm in it. Just got my car back from the repair shop and now I keep checking to see if the window in cracked open. My car didn't do this before.... MY13....

My mirror had gotten knocked off by a piece of road debris and damaged the left side of my car so they had to do repairs to the left side. Now it sounds like the window is open on the drivers side going anywhere above 50 mph.
