I did a bit of testing (if you can call it that) with my car, about an hours worth of driving (2 trips) without using ACC and they stayed off like they should. 30 mins using ACC as usual and one of them turned on by itself. ACC is looking more and more likely as the culprit. |

I also have an LCI F31 with ACC which has the intermittent rear reading light issue. First noticed it a couple of weeks after I got it at the beginning of June.
Things I've noticed: - It only seems to happen in the dark (or perhaps only when headlights are lit). I'm pretty sure this is not just a case of only noticing it in the dark. - It happens when ACC is inactive (ie has been used, cancelled but is still set) as well as when it's on. I don't know whether it's happened when ACC is off completely. What I hadn't noticed until I read this thread is that I've only seen it happen on longer journeys (ie at least an hour into a journey). My car has been into the dealer for it, as I initially assumed it was a one-off electrical fault. Cooper York were pretty good IMO - they failed to find anything wrong with it so immediately ordered a replacement light module, without any prompting from me. The bad news is that the module was fitted a couple of weeks ago, just before I took the car away for a week. I've had several repeat incidents since then including the first time I've seen them both on, while being followed on a dark country road by an X5 with obviously the same adaptive LED issue that russellg has. Will be curious to see whether teaston still has the issue following his module swap.

I had time to spend waiting for the quack and read through this whole thread. It is ACC. No it's not. Yes it is. No it's not. Dealer found the issue. Oh no they didn't.
Damn Mulder and Skully are needed...

My car has been in twice, no faults showing, computer says no. They took it on a test drive and used ACC and nothing happened, I explained it didn't always happen and I haven't figured out a pattern or a way to get it to do it.

Methinks somebody's fat fingers had an ND and was trying to have a pop at yours truly.

Ha... You can add me to the list now...
I will report back any useful observations as I note more, but this has happened to me a couple of times now whilst on longer drives... Yes, I have ACC and yes I was using it a fair bit... Damn trouble is that on the two times I have had it happen, I have not noticed the precise moment it pops on to see what I was doing... The switch is electronic, not mechanical, right.? So the "system" is obviously thinking it's being told to turn the light on somehow... Either that, or we all have ghost cars and there's a ghost apocalypse going to happen sometime soon..!!!

teaston When's yours back in for tests? I had to postpone mine due to being away, and was hoping you'd know something more before it goes back in
