Help oh wise people of the forum world!

I clumsily scuffed the driver side door bin when when I was getting out of the car, the very first night of getting the car!

Basically I lifted my feet out with the flat sole of the shoes facing towards the door and thus scraped the side door bin plastic. If you look at the edge of the bin, the top surface of the plastic is gone. It's bleeding obvious when you look.







Initially I thought it would come out if I cleaned it, that didn't work. I then proceeded to apply some trim polish, which made no difference at all!

Please help, if anyone knows of a cheap and effective way or a product that can repair/fill/paint over this.

Sorry I can't help you mate but that would certainly tear the crotch out of your night frock!

I really feel your pain.

I have heard you can use Vaso to "repair" it. Apparently you just rub it in, you may have to repeat a few times, but, voila it is gone.

I cannot personally recommend this though as I have never tried it.

If you're like me you will be ringing around on Monday pricing up a new trim though

Ok, not so wise one here, but I will give it a go.

First try Chux magic eraser. Failing that, there is a powerful cleaner from Einszett here:

It's very strong, so take extra care.

Otherwise you could opt for the professional assistance of Morrie from Reflection Perfection.

One way or another, it should be able to be repaired properly.

Is material torn or only scuffed?

If only scuffed, either dealer or leather repair shop (I know door panel is vinyl) can dye for you.

New door panel will run about US$800 for all parts (not including labor). Dealer would need to get door panel as well as several other bits. Not everything is transferable when replacing door panel.

The F30 door panel design is one of my annoyances with this car. Why in the world they made those pockets so large is beyond me!

Sorry to hear/see this. One issue to consider is how likely this is to occur again (hopefully not), on both the driver's and front passenger's door. If its an expensive fix, it may not be that worthwhile. Not sure if this'll be all that helpful, but if its a scuff only, I would try Jif (use sparingly and remove quickly). If its more than that, perhaps try repainting, or even marking with a pen that matches the colour as much as possible. Good luck.

I'm not too traumatised by it, it is very annoying though that you can scuff BLACK plastic that easily especially when it's high traffic spot. I'm sure it will happen again though as you try to get out of a car in a tight spot e.g. car park.

To me it looks like the top thin layer have being "scrapped" off revealing a lighter inner plastic. Why the hell they would change the consistency of the plastic is beyond me.

I will try the cleaning method and failing that I will wait till I come across a professional i.e. Morrie or a BMW dealership.

Ok, so I have 2 memory settings.
1 for my normal driving position and 2 set back a distance to avoid exactly what happened with your situation. After switching off the car, I open the door, press memory 2 and wait a few seconds for the seat to move back, allowing that little extra room in tight spots.

Works well for me.

For those interested: I used a combination of the Swissvax Elephant leather preserver and some proper scrubbing with leather cleaner to basically remove 90% of visible scuff marks.
