F30 335i M Performance Power Kit?

I was considering adding the OEM Performance Power Kit, which adds 20 hp to a 335i and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it.

thanks

That's for the E92/E82, not the F30...
http://realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=11122219489

And there is no F30 equivalent available on that site:

thanks-- I did not have F30 in my title originally; but I posted in the wrong form and the F30 was added when the post was moved.

I have a 2012 E92 coupe and usually just read the detailing forum

Then yes. Get it.

Whatever you do, do not read this forum. Because then you'll want to get one of the aftermarket solutions.

Stage 1 Performance kit for F30-335i

This kit is now available from Germany through BMW Canada dealers (and presumably BMWNA). It is a software upgrade, offering similar performance to the 335is (+20 HP and + 32 lbs.ft torque for auto trans.). The cost is about $1600 + installation time.

Update 12/13/12: this kit has yet to be released by BMW Canada to its dealers, but "it will be soon".

So...software only then? No added coolers/fans/etc like the previous one?

Well then, if I get stickers, then it's totally worth the $1600!

Can anyone confirm that this is available BMWNA?

Hahaha, yeah...I'm baffled by the lack of good design sense behind the whole idea of the black vinyl racing stripes ($200!!) and the black vinyl M Performance stickers for the side rockers ($117!!)...the fact that the side stickers are included with the F30 PPK as a "selling point" is hilarious and annoying...

I haven't seen anything to indicate that the PPK is available in the US yet.

Is there a part # for the intake silencer yet? I have a BMS stage one sitting under the tree, so I don't need the whole ppk. Wonder how much they'll want for it...

$1600 plus installation is just too expensive for 20 HP gain.

this much is true...but to be fair, it offers the following:
1. Warranty protection (duration of extended warranty too)
2. Probably underrated (typical BMW #'s)
3. Maintains OEM MPG

For some, that makes sense. Those that drive leased cars, or use these F30's for daily commutes, need #1 and #3.

I'm on the fence since for $400 more, I could get a Dinan tune and "technically" have #1. Unsure if that carries over to 6 years/100k BMW platinum warranties.

^ For $1600 it should at least be somewhat competitive with the marketplace. At 30-40 rated HP this thing becomes much more attractive.

Don't forget the 11% increase in torque (for 8 spd version) which would be felt by the driver !

There is also a new "exhaust silencer" which really is a new air filter that would change the exhaust sound to a burbling sound on deceleration. If you go to BMW's website, click on M Performance and Dynamics, you can hear the exhaust sound.
I think this modification would make the M Performance exhaust redundant.

Finally, the existing factory warranty remains in effect.

Since my previous Post #6 above, my dealer has been informed that the final MSRP and availability date have not yet been confirmed for the Canadian market. January 2013 seems like a good bet at this point. The pricing is likely to be somewhat flexible.

The M Performance Power Kit does not include a new "exhaust silencer" it includes a new "Intake Silencer" which might allow for a little more induction noise to be heard, it won't affect the sound of the exhaust burble. Any enhancement in the overrun exhaust burble will come from the software changes, and exhaust burble is audible regardless of which exhaust you are running (stock, M Performance, or otherwise, just might be louder with aftermarket). The old PPK for the N55 in the E9X advertised the enhanced burble as one of the benefits, and it comes purely from changes in fuel delivery as a result of the software change. There is already pretty significant exhaust burble in the F30 N55 in Sport/Sport+, the F30 PPK might enhance it a little bit, but I can't imagine it being much more pronounced than it already is stock. (Here are a few examples of the F30 N55 burble in Sport mode without the PPK: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=780894)

Thank you for pointing out my error ! I meant to write "intake silencer".

They're going to charge because people will want to keep their warranties, and will get it from a lot of people. It's sad that it's something that should've come with the car as it's really just programming changes, but it's BMW and marketing in general, so people are willing to pay more since it comes from the maker of their car.

If you purchased the car with the intention of keeping it for 5-7 years as I have, then the factory warranty is an important consideration.

As for the estimated price of the Stage 1 M Performance kit, it is essentially the same engine upgrade as offered in the E92-335is. For comparison purposes, in Canada, the 335is Coupe sells for about $7000 more than a standard 335i Coupe !!! That's a big premium for 20 HP and some fancy wheels !!!

So if the M Performance kit is priced around $1500, I for one will likely order it, given that it does not alter the factory warranty nor does it apparently affect fuel consumption.

I am also keeping my car for at least 7 to 8 years, but I am not sure if I'll be installing the PPK within the first 4 year when the factory warranty is still active. But then I have blown an engine in my E46 before without any modifications so I guess having the coverage is definitely worth the extra cost for some people. If the price is more reasonable, or there is a way to lower the cost by just getting the core chip without the cosmetic extras, I may go for it.

You either can just update the software only + install with a better intercooler, or just change better intercooler with chip/flash, by this way is cheaper than the power kit.
