flip it... you have it wrong. leave the U on top the way it is. just flip horizontally. the side that wraps around goes on the exhaust side.

how did you manage to get the to snap back into place on the motor side. After i removed mine. i look back down there. the groove for the motor and the exhaust never line up.

If you compress the spring so that it is in the exhaust-flap side groove and laying on top of the motor pin (sorry not sure what to call it) - so basically the only thing you are missing is the two to line up - it will be off by what seems like the diameter of the spring or so, very little - then start car. I suppose there is a small movement or the motor is stopped out of place, not sure but starting the car, immediately I could hear the spring snap into place as I'm assuming the motor turned. Not sure how lucky I got but it wasn't that hard to compress the spring up there if you have pliers and are gentle.

I personally didn't find it to make much of a difference. Maybe I'm crazy.

I didn't feel like having to unclip wire and deal with that if, for instance, my car fails and gets towed in from somewhere. It just wasn't worth dealing with in my mind for the 2% sound increase I might have heard.

Not to knock the mod, its easy enough and makes sense. I just changed my mind after having it that way for a couple of days.

I hear you, makes sense. These days BMW does not play with the warranty. They see mods and aftermarket they're quick to void. That's why I chose the BMW exhaust no warranty issues.
