No Power!?! Please Advise!!!!
So interesting issue... I was driving my 2013 335i MT to work the other day which is about a 30 min mixed city and highway trip. After about 15 min at 70mph I get off of the highway. Do about 10 min of city driving with zero issues between 25 and 35mph and I stop at red light. When I go to accelerate through the intersection when the light turns green I now find that I lose all power or ability to increase RPM once I hit 2,500RPM..... I tried switching between eco, comfort, sport, and sport + yet the problem continued to persist. No warning lights on the dash, no warning messages, nothing. I make it to work. Call my BMW dealer and spoke to an SA who said he couldn't get me in until next week.
So I continue with my work day and return to my car 8 hours later. Start my car and still no warnings, messages, or weird noises. I drive away and find that my car was completely back to normal. So my question is should I be concerned, or is this as simple as a one time software glitch? Anyone else experience this issue? BTW my powertrain is 100% stock. |

I had this happen as well, associated with shaking, running rough, and lack of power. I pulled over turned off the car, cursed at it a fair amount...and when I restarted it 5 min later after a good look under the hood for anything blatant, it was back to normal. I took it to the dealer and they had to replace fuel injectors on a couple cylinders. To be fair, I did the get drivetrain malfunction warning.

Did you notice the fan going crazy? If yes, then it is Limp Mode.
You need to change Solenoid and the fan. Common issue if you still using the factory one @ this point. Time to change them. I think there is a SIB for that.

I think at this point we just need to see what fault codes were logged to figure out where to start, but it appears as if the dealer believes it has to do with the injectors. |

Is your 2013 F30 still under warranty? I suggest to visit the dealer as soon as you have time. This problem has been reported by other forum members while driving at high speeds on highway. Imagine trying to get safely to the side of the road while the engine is not responding quickly. Please visit the dealer - soon.

Yeah I have had this happen before. i talked to my SA and he said sometimes these cars do that. Its not necessarily a problem with the cars but more of a glitch with the electronics sometimes.

After 15 minutes, i restarted the engine and the drivetrain error went away with the limb mode as well! I think it might do something with my JB5 stage 2 map 1 that i have....need to warm the engine at least for a couple of seconds |

Agreed! I have a data logger that I need to plug in to get some readings. I just haven't had the chance. That said this problem has not happened again in the last three days at least.

Ahhh!!!! The fan was blasting, which is loud as all hell btw! I thought that limp mode would be associated with a CEL?

Limp Mode doesn't through the CEl most of the time. Mine didn't. Just power reduction + loud fan.

Anyone know if a flat tire would ever lead to a limp mode? I car went into limp mode (no warnings though) and after I pulled over safely, I noticed the rr tire was completely flat. . Checked the air and it was literally 0psi (nail or something went right through even the internal cords, but the nail on whatever it was came out by itself so all I saw was the hole) .
Thoughts? |

To I took the car in for service and the SA told me the problem was just a simple fan failure. They replaced the fan and I've had no issues since.

^This! I've had this done twice - same symptoms. Bad batch of aux cooling fans on the '13 M-Sport cars is what I heard. Apparently my 1st replacement fan was from that batch too.

There is almost certainly something stored in the DME or one of the ECU's on the car. You could pull it out with the right scan tools, worth a trip to the dealer to let them see, at least you get it on record of going into limp mode. Maybe wait for it to happen again and then just drive it there, I find calling them isn't as fun as showing up in my busted car!
