For all the debate... My car is awesome!

Just made it to my parents in Scotland after a 1700 mile round trip via my wife's family in Poland. Coped with ease on the wintry roads, the -10 temps, 37mpg average so far despite 100mph+ cruising on the autobahn, accelerated to 150mph very nicely and even the wife found herself 'cruising' at 110mph! It carried stack of presents and luggage with ease, and has nice comfy seats for sleeping,. Each journey was completed without an ache and arrived fresh. The comfort and the refinement is much better than the E90 was for these kinds journeys.
And even on the wintry back roads it was an absolute pleasure to hustle across Northumberland and the Scottish Borders from newcastle.
As an all round family car, expected to do a lot of things well, I really cannot think of anything better!

The 335d Touring does have to be maybe the best all round car available.

I'm glad i don't need the extra luggage space though as the saloon does look a lot better at the cost of a bit of practicality!

It's more the flexibility I like- tyres and wheels, golf clubs, large boxes etc. Being able to reach the whole boot even when there is something near the opening is nice too.

I like the look of a tourer!

Saw a few 4GCs on the road- might be the handsomest of all and pretty damn practical too. Would love to see it as an M4 GC with the flared arches!

I would like a 4GC, very nice looks and standard equipment, and only 20 litres less luggage space than tourer!

I suggest BMW have got it pretty much right, as a package, particularly for the sort of trip you have just put it to. I suggest it is only when we want a bit more from the car that we see it has limitations. Most users won't see an issue at all, a well equipped 335d touring makes so much sense.

Pleased you are really enjoying it.

Terry, please pass on my best regards to your dad, hope all is going well, often reflect on our last conversation.

Thanks Pete, will do. He retires in the 16th Jan so have just been stocking up on parts for the next year whilst I can still get a discount!

We're just about to head out for a drive so he can see how he likes a remapped 335d.

It's not that much heavier, and the weight that's there keeps the 50/50 weight balance to offset the front driveshafts!

I suspect the long roof and my sunroof raise the CoG quite a bit mind though.

I'd say the tourer chassis is also slightly less stiff than a saloon though, and if the boot is empty then it may be a bit noisier.

All pretty marginal though and acceptable to me for the benefits I enjoy.

Uglier is totally subjective however.

I didn't want to go down that line of reasoning...But I think we'd all agree the driver would make more difference than ever the body style would!

There's a lot of jealousy of those with the better looking, more practical, less common touring I must say.

What about the times before the estate car in the UK, when we had the "shooting brake".

You can hear it... "BMW releases the new M340d shooting brake".
