Internet

Guys

Got a 320d M sport Touring on the way with a few toys including the professional media package. Also decided to go for the Internet. Anyone else got it? Is it any good or have I wasted my money and do you have to pay any monthly/annual subscriptions?

Too be honest, it's a bit of a gimmick I have found - it's soooo slooow as it runs on TMobile and their 3G coverage seems pretty poor.

I wish I could tether it off my HSPA EE mobile connection to make it usable but this is not possible once the BMW Assist is activated.

Also, any kind of text entry is rather painful with the iDrive controller.

So, in my opinion it's not really a useful addition to the car but as it's quite cheap it'll help sell the car on at a later date as it sounds rather fancy.

I got it because it was "only" another £99 and I thought it might be useful.

In reality it's so slow it's pretty much unusable, and I've never used it since the first few days. IMO a complete waste of money.

It's one of those toys you show people. It appealed to my inner geek.

Actually I tried it the other day and wanted to sign into my Google account. Could I find out how to input '@'? Could I hell!

I have it and the 3G coverage is pretty good around here. It only works when stationary though and is fidly to use, you may as well just use your phone to browse the web! Assuming you are stationary anyway.

BMW online is better, at least you can use that whilst moving and it shows sport and news headlines along with the weather.

Think I read it somewhere saying it's £10 per month after the 3 years are up...

Google Local Search, weather, news and a variety of other bits are included with the Pro Nav anyway so I figured an extra £95 for a crappy browser with painful input probably wasn't worth it If I ever did have the urge to surf while in the car I'd park up and use the phone.

I had the same problem but discovered that the @ symbol can be accessed by turning the iDrive controller past the "visible" end of characters in the "symbol" (or was it the "numbers" - can't quite remember) sub menu.

Hard to enter and the sign-in info isn't remembered by the crappy browser between sessions anyway. You have to re-enter it every time. Quite cool though to see your GoogleApps inbox on your nav screen though.

I had this on my 335d and it was a complete and utter waste of money... presumed it'd be similar for the F3x so never bothered.

It's easier and faster to use a smartphone.

Can you not tether the connection and use the iphone for example to provide internet connectivity?
