Videos of 328 vs 335?

I am very surprised there is not a ton of youtube videos of people doing rolling races with these two cars. I know there are a couple videos out but none that are straight up rolling race.

I do not think one is better than the other but given how many people say the 328 is very close in performance, isn't anyone curious to see what happens when put side by side?

335 will win every time, so it's kinda pointless. Everyone says the 328 is great for a 4 cylinder 2.0, but I don't think anyone here will claim that it's close to the 335. I mean, 240hp to 300hp, 250 torque to 300 torque. As for 0-60 times, there's been a lot of tests of both cars, typically it's like a .5-.8 diff.

I've raced few times with my friend's f30 335 both in wet and dry.
He's like 1 and 1/2 car length ahead at around 160km from 0km.
In wet, I kill him every time up until about the same. 160km.

We both have sport line 225 tires. Think 335 will be way better with 255 tires.

Not that much difference, really. Although the 335i is pretty much legendary, the 328i is certainly holding its own.

By the way, where can you race at those speeds?

I dont see what is fun with holding the steering wheel straight and flooring the gas haha. Yes the 335i will win.

Can we get some 335i's at the track or at the autocross already?! All this 300hp talk and just granny driving on the streets is getting old. Lol

The 335 is faster and not by a small margin. But what is cool is previously, with the E90 328, it would be a pounding.

The BMS stage 1 N20 tune puts the 328 right back with the 335, even giving it a slight edge. Problem is, the same tune for the 335 is netting some damn good results too.

What about the engine sound difference.....and it's funny how all of the 328 owners say the difference isn't that great.

No sound beats the M3, but the N55 does have a pretty good growl. Never been impressed with the N20, but I've only heard the stock exhaust.

What does engine sound have to do with racing/performance?...you know the topic of this thread lol

The sound difference has been beaten to death.

This thread illustrates why I was looking for videos Some say its really close, some say not so close etc. Would be nice just to see a rolling race to take the driver launch skill out of it and actually see the difference. I am shocked nothing is out there on this. Where are all the youtube people who post their races!!

Traction is very important with 300lb/tq at 1200rpm. This is why I went with m sport. It's even worse with the ah3, that car is not performing at optimal conditions unless you have the right tires

I can post some videos once i get to edit them out on a track. Im telling you its not the car. Im passing much faster cars than a 335. And rightfully so, much slower cars are passing me. Feels nice to be pushing an m3/5 and making him get out of the way haha. Then it feels like shit when a fiat500 is passing you ha.

The 328 holds its own but to get a flavor:

Assuming quarter mile times around 103 for the 335 and 13.6 seconds compared to 14.2 seconds for a 328, that is about +\- 6 car lengths. I know the poster above had a different experience but alot of things affect race outcomes (launch, driver skill (assuming shifting)). Some 335 reviews peg the 1/4 mile even lower which just adds to the difference.

Based on the measured performance, it's about 6 car lengths or more.

Seeing a lot of 328 owners getting a little...er....competitive recently on the forum, wouldn't be a case of small engine syndrome would it???

I find it's the true of the 335 owners too lol. Very quick to chime in and try to justify their purchases and the cars being so much better.

+1. There's a lot more of 335 owners bashing on 328 owners than other way around. Seems like the former need some satisfaction for spending that extra 5k

Hey man, good meeting you at Oneeighty in BK. Let me chim in here. I own a 335i, and also a N54 engine E60. Well, a friend of mine let me drive his 328i with DHP, and I find it to handle much better than my car. The power might not be the same, but its more than you'll ever need in our civilian streets. 328 is the better daily driver, and might be the better track car with the right tune.
Just my 2cents.

Good meeting you too.

Fact is, before you had the n54 or n55 and it was your real choice if you wanted to mod it thanks to forced induction and the gap over the 328 was quite big. The gap is now quite a bit smaller and the aftermarket is embracing the n20 just as they did with the n54/55. So 335 owners are either cool with it or acting a bit defensive about it, seen plenty from each camp.
