Loud Start When Cold

Is it me or is the start up of the F30 really loud when starting in the morning?

The initial "VROOM" at the beginning sounds like a freaking boat and is LOUD. I actually saw someone jump and look strangely at my car when it cranked up.

Is that an issue with my car, or is it normal?

It is normal. It starts up and idles loudly for about 10-20 seconds or so... then sadly, it quiets down. I wish it would stay loud. It sounds so good.

Really?

When you guys say "sounds better when cold"...... you guys are referring to the four-banger right?

I love cold starting in the morning! My neighbour was getting into his car, VROOOM and it made him jump and stop what he was doing!
Brilliant. Barely audible inside the car, but crack a window slightly and boy it's loud!
Shows how well the cabin is refined.
Just a shame it does quieten down.

Tell you what, if you're pulling 3-4k whilst firmly accelerating, the exhaust note from the back is stunning!
I need a GoPro with suction mount to show you guys! Well, Christmas is coming up...

Sorry, I was referring to the 335i. Not sure about the 328i, but I imagine it would sound better too.

I TOTALLY agree! I LOVE the sound of my F30 335 on a cold start! And just like you said... SADLY, it dies down and goes quiet.
Do you guys know if there is any way to keep that sound through out the day without changing the entire exhaust?!

Mod flap open helps a bit or change the exhaust

The 328i also sounds great on cold start, I always start with the door open in my garage to hear it. The idle noise isn't great but the start-up sound is for sure.

Yeah just open the left wire panel in the trunk and unplug the solenoid actuator.

I asked this question in a different thread ... but do you hear a "rattle" from the lest rear exhaust (drivers side) on the 335i when you start up? There's a damper/vent that closes the left exhaust on start-up and then opens after 15-20 seconds. Seems as though this damper makes a rattle when you first start. Do others hear this (you have to listen for it w/ the door open)?

Yeah just open the left wire panel in the trunk and unplug the solenoid actuator.
The plug for the actuator is under the car next to the actuator. Also simply unplugging the actuator will leave the flap closed.
