Top Mount Big Turbo

So who is going to be the first to have a top mount single turbo? For the price of Pure Stage 2, it seems like someone could fab up a custom manifold and then bolt up a precision 6266 or a holsett turbo. I love the N54/55 platform but progress and innovation seems to develop at such a low rate. Will someone please step up with the balls to do one?

Progressing at a slow rate? Certainly not on the 54 side....

As to why folks aren't putting proper turbos on 55s; it's almost entirely due to software limitations. The hardware is easy, but flash control over the DME is so limited on the E9x N55s and even moreso on the F3x 55s. Oh and for whatever reason, the 55s seem to get cranky with ethanol.

Tricores aren't easy to reverse engineer.....If someone wants to go buy a MOTEC or Syvecs, they'll be in great shape. $20K poorer...But in great shape.

Enzo tuning has already come out with a complete DME Flash for the F3X N55. I just don't understand how if they were to release a Nissan R36 GT-R I bet within a month they would already have kits for 1000+ whp and here we have to wait 10+ years (maybe even never) to make anything close to that. I mean JB4 has users with a 23PSI boost target and that's not even with a DME flash. Why couldn't you just make a top mount manifold, fit a GT35R, fab all of your own plumbing and run it off a Flashed DME with JB4? I feel like it's just the lack of interest in our field and not enough resources behind it.

The reason you don't see it is because people are rational, for the most part. If someone is willing to go through all the trouble of such significant modifications, they will start with an M3/4.

Exactly. Buy a M3 /M4 and you get a lot of other parts necessary for super handling.

Unless you only want to do 1/4 mile..

At the prices you have it is the best option.

I'm glad you're the chosen one.

Apparently, Proven Power located in Tampa can build a customized turbo set up. GL!

I don't think I could ever find myself driving an S55. It just sounds too damn horrible. Plus the M235i comes with a forged crank, so rods and pistons are left to be reinforced. If a base M235i costs $45,145 I easily believe you could make a Big Single Top Mount Turbo kit/intercooler/DME Flash/Suspension for less than it costs for an M4. Easily. Sure I would take an E9X M3 over a built 335i, but only because it sounds monsterous.

At WOT the S55 sounds pretty bad ass but other than that it is much to be desired. The CLA45 AMG (4 banger) arguable sounds better.

Off topic here, but is that the difference of that M235i motor compared to an F30 335i, a forged crank?

The CLA45 AMG is absolutely ridiculous to work on as it has a forged engine. I think rebellion tune actually managed to drop its 0-60 time to 3.3 secs from 4.2. Think it gave the car 460hp and 450lbs of torque? For a 4 cyl thats ridiculously fast. Not sure about reliability but damn.
