"DCT will not be offered because it offers no advantage over the 8 speed auto."

Haha...except in the M3, where it will?

I know this has been mentioned in other discussions, but why didn't they include the Dynamic Performance Control in the X6 or even a more basic LSD?

Will the U.S. receive any diesel models?
There's no official yet word on this. BMW feels that the Active Hybrid 3 attracts different buyers than a diesel F30 would, so they're considering it. However, the E90 335d hasn't exactly been a sales success in the US, so they may be considering a different diesel engine offering this time.
Right, 320d makes more sense to me.

If they are anything like the zf in the 335 it will be fine on upshifts, but downshifting wont be as fast as a skilled manual driver.

Will the m sport be available on the 328i. If so, will it have all the same features as the one on the 335i?

Bring a smaller diesel to the US and it will sell better than the 335d, I had one as a loaner for a few days and its mileage wasn't that much better than a regular 335i so I can understand why few people would want to buy it and deal with the harder-to-find diesel stations (only a few in my area sell diesel).

A 320d or 323d with 45+mpg would be a much more enticing option to American buyers. Lots of people around here drive BMWs but don't care about acceleration, I've heard plenty of people say their 328i is more power than they ever needed...not everyone is an enthusiast like the people on this forum.

I'd absolutely love a choice between the 320d and the 330d, but I can live with just the 320. As long as it comes with a 6MT.

I really don't understand why they bring us a X3 with the N54 but don't bring us the 335i wagon.
1. Because 90% of americans don't like wagons.

2. Because they don't actually have to "bring" the X3. It's built in the US.

i hope with the x-drive in combination with the M-Sport Package they give you the option of selecting the upgraded wheel size, you only could get the 17's on the e90

Ok, so are they going to do what they did with the E90 and come out with a new engine for the 335i next year, because leaving it the same engine is just pure laziness. I don't care if its lighter when lightly equipped. How hard would it have been to at least bump the power up to 330hp?

South,

Many of Us would love to see more option on diesel. It take a little while for the power train to catch on.

The only reason for me not buying one was the I am keeping my e92M and did not want to have a e90 diesel when I could have waited for a f30 diesel a year later.

I am already convinced of the improvement in torque. I owned 7 different BMW over a 15 year time frame and my next two purchases will be the diesel model of X5 and f30 diesel if offered. I wish manual was an option also but it won't stop me from buying one.

Please tell them to try it out on the F30 if sales are not a success than they can scratch it in 6 yrs.

100% agreed! Hell the 116d in Europe is good for 53 MPG.

I would think they could get 50 MPG out of 4-cylinder diesel in the new 3-series. BRING IT ON BABY. Again wake up Munich Marketing. BTW any job openings for people that understand the U.S. buyer?

Because I don't think the point of the 328i is for it to go 'fast' per say. BMW is using the N20 to lower it's fuel consumption across it's line.
Agreed!

Actually I think BMW's claim that reliability is a concern for higher output versions of the N20. This is probably over-simplifying things, but basically, it seems the N20 has 66% of the displacement of the N55, and uses similar twin-scroll turbo technology. Given that, one would expect the N20 to put out 66% of the power, coming in at 200HP. Instead, it comes in at 240. It will be interesting, however, to see how far the tuners will push this, and how reliable the engine will prove to be.

If I were BMW, I would be worried the n20 is going to eat my n55 lunch. After buying my n52 325, I was sure my next 3 series would be the N55. Now, I can't really see a reason to go there. The N20 gives me similar acceleration numbers, a top-end speed I can't use anyhow, a lighter front-end, lower taxes (taxed on displacement here!) etc etc. In my situation, I don't see how the N55 justifies itself at 305HP.

So...let me ask this question for the thread...When will BMW come out with the bumped up version of the N55 engine? (numbers around the N54is version?)

Almost as if they wanted the diesel to fail in the US. Let's see, no manual and many either came bare or loaded; not a lot of variation to chose from either(at least in South Florida). My apologies but 54K for a non-M 3 series is ridiculous, especially when I can get a pretty decent package with an E320 BluTec.

I drove a 335D and was blown by the away torque and overall feel but again not for 54K.

And for the record I don't want a hybrid, especially a German hybrid, it's kind of oxymoronic.

I have a 2011 328i X-Drive with the M-Sport Package. I ordered the car with the upgrade 193M 18inch wheels from the factory as opposed to the 17's that came previously with the M-Sport pack. Your statement is completely false, but your desire for larger rims on the F30 will most definitely come true.

Yes, rumors from a, variety of sources are saying, beginning in 2013, BMW will bump up the HP of the N55 beyond 300+

Bummer about the Alcantara. I suppose an F30 is not in the cards for me then.
