Find the right oil for:
2013 BMW 328i xDrive
Based on what you've told us, your vehicle manufacturer recommends a 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30 or 5W-40 viscosity and oil that meets BMW Longlife LL-01 or BMW Longlife-01FE. We currently do not offer any motor oils in the United States that meet these specifications.

BMW is now working with Shell - guess we need to look at their products!
I have not performed an oil change on our F30 - just got it last weekend, and BMW will be performing the next change for us - but I have been using Mobil 1 European Car Formula 0W-40 in the E39 and both E46s for several years.
It seems the local Walmart has a mix of M1 0w-40 that is and is no longer BMW LL-01 approved.

I have a decent stock of M1 0w-40. But I'll probably switch over to Castrol Edge 0w-40 when I run out. It's available for the same price as the M1 0w-40 at Walmart.

Castrol burns at lower temperature and leaves more residue inside engine than mobil if car is driven aggresively. Also the mobil 0w-40 is thinner and flows better than other 0w-40 oil brands at high temperature. Believing the dealership that castrol is better is like believing that run-flats are better
