Is there only a single AC button? If so, when you press "Auto", this automatically engages the AC compressor. The temperature control is dual-zone, but there's only a single compressor.

you can close the vents to turn off the right side. However, it likely works the same way as the reast of the ventilations systems out there. when the AUTO is pressed it dynamically controls the speed of the fan to blow only the amount of air needed to keep the car at that particular temperature. if you adjsut the side to side temperature differntly you might get a slight mixure of temperatures but not extreme so if you are expecting the left side to blow out 50* temperatures and the right side to blow out 70* then think again that wont happen. There will only be a marginal different between the two. If you want to dynamically control the temperature from side to side then close one or more vents on the side you want to be warmer. You'll find it works.

When on auto, the fan speed adjusts how aggressively the system will try to match that temperature.
